Western WBB Falls to #6 Dakota State 81-59

DILLON, Mont. – The UMW women's basketball program (10-13, 8-11 FC) was clipped by #6 Dakota State (22-3, 17-2 FC) 81-59 Friday evening.
 
The Bulldogs led by as many as 15 in the opening frame, but the Trojans put together back-to-back 20-point quarters to help take the win.  
 
STAT BREAKDOWN
UMW shot 33.8 percent (22-65) from the field, 18.8 percent (3-16) from three, and 75.0 percent (12-16) from the charity stripe.
 
Western earned 45 rebounds, 12 assists, 10 steals, and four blocks.
 
The Bulldogs registered 30 points in the paint, 15 points off turnovers, 11 second-chance points, and 23 bench points.
 
LEADERBOARD
Bailee Sayler paced the team with 15 points, followed by Isabella Lund with 12.
 
Keke Davis grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds.
 
Lund handed out a team-high three assists while Kyle Pancost swatted two blocks.
 
Davis, Sayler, and Tayva Phillips each tallied two steals.
 
NOTABLES
Seventh 40-rebounds game this season.
 
Third-straight game with four blocks.
 
Davis had 10 boards for second time in three games.
 
Sayler posted her fifth-straight game with at least 15 points.
 
Eighth contest with at least 10 steals.
 
GAME SUMMARY
The opening five minutes was a masterclass from the Bulldogs, who went on a 15-2 run to lead early.
 
Dakota State pulled back within one, 19-18, at the end of the period.
 
The Trojans put up 26 points in the second quarter to go up 11, 44-33, at the half.
 
UMW shot 36.6 percent (11-30) from the floor, 16.7 percent (2-12) from three, and 69.2 percent (9-13) from the foul line in the first half.  
 
After the break, the Bulldogs struggled a bit offensively, allowing the visitors to take a
23-point advantage, 64-41, into the final 10 minutes.
 
Western outscored Dakota State in the fourth, but couldn't close the gap and the Trojans took the 81-59 win.
 
THE OTHER GUYS
The Trojans shot 41.4 percent (29-70) from the field, 37.1 percent (13-35) from three, and 71.4 percent (10-14) from the foul line. They tallied 40 rebounds, 15 assists, 15 steals, and three blocks. Tabor Teel led all players with 30 points, followed by Bria Wasmund (13) and Ella Carstensen (10). Teel also pulled down a game-best 11 boards. Caitlyn Dyer dished out a game-high five assists. Teel, Wasmund, and Madala Hanson each snagged three steals. Angelina Chapple posted two blocks.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
Western is back at home tomorrow for the final time in 2025-26, when they welcome Bellevue for "Senior Night." Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. MT.
