UMW Volleyball Wraps Up Action at Saints Invitational

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Montana Western volleyball team (1-3) fell to Campbellsville (4-0) Saint Francis (1-3) on day two of the Saints Invitational Saturday.
 
 NOTABLES 
Jayda Ward set a second career high in as many days with 26 assists against Campbellsville.
 
Olivia Rosborough recorded multiple blocks in three of four outings at the Saints Invitational.

  • Look earned a team-best seven kills.
  • Ward dished out a team-high 9 assists.
  • Ketchum, Kennedy Lingenfelter, Madisyn Frazier, and Morgyn Harrison each tallied one ace.
  • Lingenfelter registered a team-best two blocks.
  • Ketchum recorded a team-high 15 digs.
 
 MATCH SUMMARY 
The Bulldogs began the day with a marathon 36-34 set win over Campbellsville. The Tigers evened the match after another tightly contested 25-23 second set. Sets three and four looked to continue in much the same way, however CU managed to pull away late, winning both sets 25-18.
 
Against Saint Francis, the two sides traded the lead back and forth for much of the opening frame. The Cougars managed to snag the 1-0 lead 25-22. USF doubled its lead in set two, 25-16. The Bulldogs stayed in the fight in the third, but Saint Francis narrowly pulled off the 25-23 win.
 
 SPLIT BOX 
UMW vs CU
Western bested the Tigers in service aces (7-6) and digs (61-58), but were outdone in points (66.0-73.0), kills (55-60), blocks (4-7), and assists (45-51)
 
UMW vs USF
UMW held the statistical advantage in service aces (4-3) and were edged in points (41.0-47.0), kills (34-49), blocks (3-5), assists (27-35), and digs (31-41).

 ON THE HORIZON 
Following the Saints Invitational, the Bulldogs return home to host an intersquad "Black vs Red" scrimmage Aug. 20. The match is set for 6:30 p.m. MT in the Straugh Gymnasium.
