Bulldog Volleyball Takes Down Rocky Mountain, 3-1, Wednesday

BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana Western volleyball team (6-11, 5-5 FC) defeated Rocky Mountain (3-11, 1-9 FC) 3-1 Wednesday evening in Billings.
 
In a credit to the Bulldogs' defense, Western held the Battlin' Bears to a .100 hitting percentage as a team, the third game in a row that an opponent has hit .100 or less.
 
 NOTABLES 
Taylor Ketchum recorded a career-high four aces.
 
Olivia Rosborough hit over .300 for the third time in the last four matches.
 
Jayda Ward posted her fifth double-double of the season.
 
Jaiden Perez recorded at least 3.0 blocks for the third time in the last four outings.
 
Madisyn Frazier tallied more than 20 digs for the third-straight match.

 LEADERBOARD 
 
 MATCH SUMMARY 
The opening frame was a close one, with neither team gaining more than a three-point lead for the entirety of the set. The hosts used a 4-1 run at the end to take set one, 25-23.
 
The second period looked to continue in the same manner, but the Bulldogs went on an 8-4 run midway through the set to take the lead. They leveled the match at 1-1 with a 25-21 set two win.
 
Western upped the pressure in the third frame, though RMC kept it close through the first half of the set. UMW utilized a 12-4 run, including the final four points of the set, to take the 2-1 advantage, 25-18.
 
The Battlin' Bears refused to go quietly, however, battling back from four-points down multiple times in the final period and taking the 23-22 lead late. UMW composed itself against the threat of the comeback to take the final three points and the match, 25-23.
 
 SPLIT BOX 
The Bulldogs won the statistical battle in points (72.0-48.0), kills (60-39), aces (6-3), assists (56-36), and digs (89-82) while the two sides were even in blocks with 6.0 apiece.
 
 ROCKY MOUNTAIN 
Sadie Meier led the Battlin' Bears with nine kills while Kaitlyn Wood hit a team-high .211. Rylie McMillan (17) and Kristyn Mentink (16) combined for 33 assists. Meier, Wood, and Iris Arlint each tallied one ace for RMC. Zoey Albert earned a team-high 20 digs and Sydney Nance recorded a game-high 4.0 blocks.
 
 ON THE HORIZON 
The Bulldogs take to the court again Friday when they travel to Helena, Mont. to take on Carroll College. First serve is set for 6 p.m. MT.
