Buchannan coached his first season as a student-assistant coach in 2025. He helped the Bulldogs to a  7-3 overall record. 

In 2025, he helped coach the Bulldog Wide Receivers. Under Buchannan, Eli Nourse earned AP, AFCA,and VSN All-American honors as well as Frontier West Offensive Player of the Year and a First Team All-Conference selection. He also coached Seth Shook to a First Team All-Conference honor and a Frontier Conference Offensive Player of the Week award.
