J.C. Isakson

J.C. Isakson was named the 14th coach in Montana Western Men’s Basketball history on April 17th, 2026.

Prior to taking the helm at UMW, Isakson spent eight years at the University of Providence, including the last three as the Men’s Basketball Head Coach. During his second season as the head coach the Argos were Frontier Conference regular season and Frontier Conference Tournament Runner-Ups. As Head Coach Isakson has recruited, developed, and coached five Frontier Conference All-Conference award winners. Five players went on to sign professional contracts in three years.

Isakson got his start at UP as an assistant coach under former UMW head coach Steve Keller.

Before his stint at UP, Isakson was a graduate assistant at MSU-Billings under head coach Jamie Stevens. During his time there the Yellowjackets qualified for the GNAC Championships for the first time in four years.

Isakson coached high school basketball for one season before returning to Western as the lead assistant for then head coach Keller. In his two seasons as an assistant the Bulldogs won 41 games, were Frontier Conference Co-Champions, and made two National Tournament appearances.

The UMW alum played for the Bulldogs from 2008-2012 and was part of three NAIA National Tournament teams and the 2012 Frontier Conference Co-Champions.

JC Isakson is married to his wife, Baylie; a UMW alum. They have three children, their daughter BlaykLinn and twin sons Clay and Crue.
