The Bulldogs overcame an early deficit to win the opening game of the Cactus Classic over Ottawa Arizona. Midway through the first half the Bulldogs found themselves in an 11 point hole to the Spirit. Cedric Boone hit back-to-back treys after Max Clark completed a 3-point play to cut the lead to just two points. Montana Western was able to take a 47-45 lead at the break. James Jones scored nine straight points for UMW early in the second half to put the Bulldogs in front for good as they held a 10 point lead for most the second half. 

Top Performers 

• Cedric Boone scored 22 points, dished out seven assists and pulled down five rebounds. 
• James Jones scored 18 points, nine rebounds and two assists.
• Brian Howell went 6-9 from the floor for 17 points and six rebounds. 
• Connor Burkhart scored 10 points, five rebounds and a block.
• Dimetres Moore led all-scorers with 28 points, He added three rebounds and an assist for Ottawa. 
• Brian Carey scored 25 points, eight rebounds and six assists for OUAZ.

Inside the Box Score

• Both teams shot 47 percent from the floor. 
• The Bulldogs won the rebound battle (40-32) and shot 21-28 from the charity stripe.
