Bulldogs Drop Close Game to No. 7 LC State

Score: Montana Western 67  – No. 7 Lewis-Clark State College 70
Record: UMW (11-18, 4-14), LCSC (27-3, 15-3)
Location: Straugh Gymnasium - Dillon, Mont. 

The Bulldogs upset bid fell just short in a 67-70 loss to No. 7 LC State. Trailing by as many as nine in the first half the Bulldogs were able to trim it to just three heading into halftime. UMW took their first lead of the night early in the second half and lead by four with 10 minutes left in the game. LC quickly responded and built the lead back to eight points. The Bulldogs were able to tie the game at 62 with two minutes remaining, but were unable to retake the lead. The Bulldogs last-second 3-pointer just missed the mark as the Warriors escaped with the win. 

Top Performers 
  • Cedric Boone scored 23 points, three assists and a steal.
  • James Jones scored 17 points, two rebounds and a steal. 
  • Connor Burkhart scored 11 points and seven rebounds. 
  • Travis Yenor went 9-16 form the field for 22 points, four rebounds and two steals for LC State.
  • Damek Mitchell recorded a 17 point, 11 rebound double-double. He added four assists for the Warriors.

The Bulldogs will travel to Great Falls, Mont. to face No. 10 University of Providence on Tuesday, March 3 in the opening round of the Frontier Conference Tournament. Tip-off from the McLaughlin Center is set for 7 p.m.
