ATHERTON, Calif. – The Montana Western Men's Basketball Team (1-0) started their season tonight with a road victory over the Cal-Maritime Keelhaulers (0-2) by a score of 69-60.

How it Happened
The two teams were closely matched at the half, with Montana Western up 30-25 on the Keelhaulers. The Bulldog's held on to a 10-point lead in the second half with 10:31 left, before allowing the Keelhaulers to bring it within two points with just 3:53 remaining in the game. Back to back layups by
Ky Kouba and
Jok Jok helped swing the momentum back into the Bulldogs favor and push Montana Western past Cal-Maritime with a final score of 69-60.
The Bulldogs shot 46.6 percent from the field and capitalized with nine points off of turnovers. The Bulldogs also had just seven turnovers in the game. Kouba led the Bulldogs with 16 points, shooting 6-9 from the field and knocking down four three-point shots in the game. Not far behind was
Jamal Stephenson who totaled 14 points as he shot 6-14 from the field and was 2-2 from the free throw line.
Jacob Ankeny shot 100 percent from the field as he went 6-6 in the game.
Notables
- The Bulldogs combined to shoot 46.3 percent from the field, in comparison to Cal-Maritime who shot 41.4 percent. The Bulldogs bench also combined for 32 total points, 14 more points than that of the Keelhaulers' bench.
- The Bulldogs totaled 29 rebounds in the game, 7 of which came from Jok.
- Kouba led the Bulldogs with 16 points, shooting 6-9 from the field and knocking down four three-point shots in the game.
- Ankeny came off the bench and went an impressive 6-6 from the field, scoring 12 points for the Bulldogs.
