Fitzgerald Leads Bulldogs Past Corban University

SALEM, Ore. - The Montana Western Bulldog women's basketball team won tonight's matchup against Corban University (Ore.) by a score of 69-60. "Once again, our bench was terrific tonight whether it was providing great defensive energy or some timely offense." Head Coach Lindsay Woolley stated after the win.

How It Happened
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 10-6 lead with just three minutes left in the first quarter. The Warriors climbed right back into it and outscored the Bulldogs 10-3 for the remaining time. The Warriors led the Bulldogs 16-13 at the end of the first quarter. UMW would continue to trail the Warriors heading into the half as the score was 27-22. Struggling through turnovers, the Bulldogs would have 10 in the first half alone. Despite having one more turnover, the Warriors were able to score 11 points off of turnovers compared to UMW's seven. Four Bulldogs found themselves with two or more fouls by the end of the first half. Jordan Sweeney led the Bulldogs at the half with six points and two assists, despite picking up three fouls that sidelined her for a portion of the second quarter.

The Bulldogs came back from the half with a renewed fire and were able to make much needed adjustments before stepping back on the court. "I thought we were getting cross matched too often out of the press so we really just wanted to try and grind them in the half court." Woolley stated. With 6:23 left in the third quarter, the Bulldogs battled back and tied the game up at 32 off of a pair of free throws made by Keke Davis. By the end of the third quarter, the Bulldogs were able to take a lead of four points, outscoring the Warriors 22-13 in the third quarter. A quick Corban three-pointer to start the fourth quarter brought the game back within one, but Mesa King answered right back with a layup and a drawn foul. A three-pointer from Sweeney stretched the lead to six with just over six minutes in the game. The Bulldogs battled with the Warriors for the remainder of regulation, but were able to outscore Corban 25-20. The Bulldogs finished out the game on top by a score of 69-60.
