Bulldogs Lose In Tough Battle With No. 4 College of Idaho

CALDWELL, Idaho— The Bulldog Men's basketball team took on the No. 4 ranked team in the nation as they played College of Idaho in the Domino's Classic this evening. Despite coming back from being down 20 points in the first half, the Bulldogs fell 81–74 to the Yotes.

"I love this team. The character and toughness they showed tonight is what we are about. We made a ton of mental and physical mistakes that we can learn from and we will." Head Coach Mike Larsen said after the game.

How It Happened
The Yotes jumped out to a quick lead, outscoring the Bulldogs 28-8 in the first 11 minutes of the game. A three-pointer from Jamal Stephenson kicked the Bulldogs into gear. The Bulldogs would go on to outscore the Yotes for the remaining nine minutes of the half 26-11. Ky Kouba led the Bulldogs in the first half after he shot 5-7 from the three-point line and put up 17 total points. Despite the slow start, the Bulldogs trailed just four points at the half at 41-37.

The Bulldogs kicked the second half off bringing the game within one point behind a three-pointer from Michael Haverfield. The Bulldogs then tied the game up at 43 behind another three-pointer from Brenton Woods just over a minute into the second half. They snagged their first lead of the game following a layup by Stephenson at 45-43. The two teams continued to trade leads back and forth before the Yotes went on an 11-0 scoring run with eight minutes to go in the game. The Bulldogs fought to get back in the game and with 2:46 left to play, they were able to bring it back within three points at 69-66 after Kouba hit another three-pointer. Despite the battle, the Bulldogs were unable to hang on as the Yotes outlasted the Bulldogs through the final minutes of the game. The Bulldogs fell by a score of 81-74.

Notables
  • The Bulldogs outshot the Yotes with a team 45.6 percent from the field and 46.4 percent from the three-point line. They also went 9-11 from the free throw line.
  • The Yotes outrebounded the Bulldogs 43-26 in the game.
  • Ky Kouba led the Bulldogs on the day with 22 points, two rebounds, and one steal. Kouba shot 6-9 from the three point line and 8-12 from the field.
  • Jok Jok had 15 points in the game, along with four boards and an assist.
  • Tanner Haverfield led the Bulldogs in rebounding with seven total, three of which were offensive.
