Bulldogs Tripped Up By Dickinson State at Milanovich Classic

DICKINSON, N.D. - The Montana Western Bulldog Men's Basketball team fell to Dickinson State this evening by a score of 71-81. This is the second time the Bulldogs have faced the Blue Hawks this season, the Bulldogs defeated DSU on Nov. 11 by one point.

How it Happened
The Bulldogs allowed the Blue Hawks to go on an 11-4 run to kick off the game. Bulldog forward Jok Jok hit a jump shot and Jamal Stephenson hit a three pointer to bring it back within two points at 14:57 left in the half. After battling back and forth for the next three minutes, the Bulldogs were able to take the lead behind back-to-back threes from Christian Pitcher and Stephenson. With a four-point lead at 23-19, the Blue Hawks hit three straight three-pointers with just over four minutes in the half to give DSU their largest lead of the game. The Blue Hawks would go into the half up 35-45 on the Bulldogs.

Down 12 points just 18:56 into the second half, the Bulldogs went on a 12-2 run to tie the game up at 49. Michael Haverfield put one in to bring the Bulldog lead to four, but the Blue Hawks continued to battle it out with the Bulldogs. The two teams traded back and forth twice and tied it back up at 64 with 6:45 left to play. However, DSU continued to outscore the Bulldogs and won the game by a score of 81-71.

Notables
  • The Bulldogs had a shooting percentage of 50 percent from the field as the Blue Hawks shot 57 percent from the field. Dickinson State also shot an impressive 10-22 from the three-point line compared to the Bulldogs who shot 31.8.
  • The Bulldogs totaled 28 rebounds in the matchup versus the Blue Hawks' 33 total.
  • Jamal Stephenson led the Bulldogs with 18 points, one assist, and one steal.
  • Ky Kouba had 14 points in the game and six rebounds.
