FOREST GROVE, Ore. - The Montana Western Bulldog women's basketball team lost their first road game of the season tonight to Pacific University (Ore.) 64-60. Despite a huge comeback in the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs drop to 1-1 on the season.
How It Happened
The Bulldogs struggled throughout the first quarter as they went down 22-6 to the Boxers. After shooting just 24.1 percent from the field and 0-8 from the three-point line, the Bulldogs got into a hole that they would continue to struggle to climb out of for the remainder of the first half. Pacific had no trouble scoring as they shot 53.3 percent from the field and went 5-10 from the arc in the first half. The Bulldogs would go into the second half down 35-17.
Mesa King led the Bulldogs in the first half with eight points and a rebound.
Brynley Fitzgerald also totaled four rebounds in the first half for the Bulldogs.
The Boxer's offense continued to pressure the Bulldogs as they opened the second half with nine straight unanswered points. Fitzgerald made the first three point shot for the Bulldogs with just over two minutes left in the third quarter. The Boxers held their largest lead of the game going into the fourth quarter as they were up 54-32 on the Bulldogs.
Payton Hagy hit three straight three-pointers for the Bulldogs before the Boxers would put points up in the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs gained momentum and brought the game within just four points at 1:11 left in the game, but they were unable to overcome the Boxer lead before the end of regulation. The Bulldogs lost 64-60, despite outscoring the Boxers 28-10 in the fourth quarter.
Notables
- The Bulldogs were cold in the first quarter, shooting just 13.3 percent from the field. Despite the rough start, the Bulldogs finished the game shooting 63.2 percent in the fourth quarter and going 4-7 from the three-point line.
- The Boxers had three more turnovers than the Bulldogs, but outscored the Bulldogs off of turnovers by two points.
- King led the Bulldogs with 18 points and five rebounds, going nine for 10 shooting.
- Fitzgerald followed with 11 points, six rebounds, and four steals.
- Hagy hit three straight three-pointers at the start of the fourth quarter to kickstart the Bulldog offense.

The Bulldogs will be continuing their road trip with a game against Corban University (Ore.) tomorrow Nov. 10 at 6:30PM MST in Salem, Ore. The Bulldogs lead 4-0 in the series history between the two teams, their last matchup was Nov. 9, 2018. The Bulldogs won that matchup by a score of 88-38.
