Bulldog Volleyball Defeats Reigning Conference Champions in Straight Sets

BILLINGS, Mont. - The Montana Western Volleyball team got off to a great start at the Frontier Conference Preseason Tournament as they defeated the University of Providence this evening in straight sets by scores of 25-16, 25-18, and 25-20. This is the first Bulldogs win over the Argos since 2017. "It was great to start the weekend off with a win. Providence has always been a great team that is very well coached so we knew it would be a challenge." Coach Katie Lovett stated.

How It Happened
The Bulldogs defeated the Argos in straight sets tonight after a fiery start as they hit an impressive .405 in the first set to get the ball rolling. The Bulldogs would go on to outhit the Argos .261 to .110 over the entire game. Freshman Jordan Olson had her first double digit game as a Bulldog as she led the team in kills with 12 and had a hitting percentage of .417. KayLee Kopp and Jazi Smith each had eight kills. Danyel Martin led with five blocks, one of which was a solo block in the first set. Martin also hit .600 after snagging 7 kills on 11 attempts. Kaylee Fritz topped over 700 career assists tonight (724) as she totaled 34 in the win over the Argos.

"I am super proud of our offense, they have all been playing phenomenal! We had multiple hitters step up tonight and put the ball away when needed. On top of that, our back row played great defense! Go Dawgs!" sophomore setter Kaylee Fritz said after the win.

  • The Bulldogs defeated the Argos for the first time since 2017 and was their first sweep over UP since 2014.
