Bulldog Volleyball Falls to University of Providence

GREAT FALLS, Mont. — The Montana Western volleyball team (16-3, 3-2) fell in a tough matchup with the University of Providence (12-8, 4-1) by scores of 18-25, 16-25, 25-22, 15-25.

How it Happened
The Argos jumped out early in the first set of the match, grabbing an 8-4 early lead. A kill from Danyel Martin paired with an Argo error brought the Bulldogs within a point. Despite the close start, the Argos answered going on their own 5-1 run and taking a 16-11 lead. Despite grabbing points from kills from KayLee Kopp and Kara Pospisil, the Bulldogs were unable to hang with the Argos and fell 25-18 in the first set.

Providence used momentum from the first set win to take a quick 4-0 in the second set. Despite the lead, UMW fought back to take the lead at 7-6 behind a solo block from Kaitlyn Van Well. Despite trading a few points, the Argos rallied on to win the set 25-16 and holding the Bulldogs to a set-low of -.031 hitting percentage and just six kills.

UMW turned things around in the third set. As a team, the Bulldogs would go on to hit .300 while raking in 16 total kills as a team. The Bulldogs claimed the third set by a score of 25-22.

The Argos regained control in the fourth frame, taking an 11-4 advantage early on. The Argos rallied on to a 25-15 victory over UMW. The Bulldogs again struggled to gain momentum across the set, tallying just eight kills in the frame.

Notables
  • The Bulldogs were outhit .292 to .151 on the night, including a total of 66 kills for the Argos.
  • Jordan Olson led the Bulldogs with 11 kills and just one error.
  • Martin added to her career block total with four blocks in today's matchup. She also added six kills.
  • Sophie Worden led with 19 assists and five digs. She also dished out two serving aces.
  • Kelsey Goddard and Jazi Smith led the Bulldogs in the back row. Goddard with 16 digs and Smith with 15 total.
Up Next
The Bulldogs will take a week off from competition and will resume conference play on Oct. 20 at home for the Dig Pink Game against MSU-Northern at 7 p.m.
