COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho – The Montana Western men's basketball team (6-2) handed Eastern Oregon University their first loss of the season this afternoon in a 74-65 win for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldog men were led by
Jalyn Stepney who racked up 26 points off of a 9-13 performance from the field.
How It Happened
After matching each other point for point across the start of the first half, it was the Bulldogs who took the first edge after triple from Stepney. Stepney would drain another shortly after to take a five-point lead halfway through the first half.
EOU's Malachi Afework brough the Mounties back within two following a jumper in the paint, but Stepney would drain another triple to continue to drive the Bulldogs forward.
Alan Kane capped the quarter with a three-pointer to send UMW up at the half by eight.
The Mounties were the first to take an edge at the start of the second half, tying the game back up at 42 all with a fastbreak layup from Trent Rogers. UMW's Kane broke the stalemate and pushed Western forward on an 8-0 scoring run that gave them the edge for the remainder of the game. They held on to win the game 74-65.

- Western combined to shoot for 51.1 percent in the game from the field while also holding EOU scoreless from the three-point line.
- The Bulldog men shot 56 percent across the first half while knocking down a combined six threes to hold a 38-30 lead at the half.
- Four Bulldogs hit double digits in scoring with Stepney leading the way with 26 points.
- Kyle Gruhler impressed with nine rebounds while also adding 13 points on the night.

The Bulldogs will return to action in the Straugh Gymnasium on Nov. 30 against the University of Maine at Fort Kent at 5pm.
