Montana Western Volleyball Welcomes MSU-Northern and #3 Providence

DILLON, Mont. – The Montana Western volleyball team (7-9, 5-4 FC) hosts MSU-Northern (8-7, 6-3 FC) and three-ranked Providence (16-1, 9-0) Friday and Saturday in Straugh Gymnasium.

 LAST TIME OUT 
The Bulldogs split the matches last weekend, sweeping Rocky Mountain 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-19) before falling to then (RV) Carroll College 3-1 (21-25, 25-15, 18-25, 14-25)
 
At RMC, Jordan Olson led the game in kills (10) shared the game-high in blocks with Jaiden Perez (5.0 apiece). Taylor Ketchum earned a game-best 22 digs. Taylor Petersen tallied a game-high 19 assists and Megan Hardman landed a game-best three service aces.
 
Against Bellevue, Averi Look registered a team-high 11 kills. Perez tallied a game-best 6.0 blocks. Ketchum had her second 20-dig game in as many days with a game-high 21. Hardman led the team with 17 assists. Savana Warburton, Madisyn Frazier, and Jayda Ward all contributed one ace.
 
 BULLDOG BEAT 
Montana Western has tallied 603 kills, 564 assists, 847 digs, 119 blocks, and 81 aces service aces on the year. The team's best tally in kills (60), assists (59), and service aces (13), came in its five-set victory over Arizona Christian (8/30). UMW earned season highs in digs (83) and blocks (13.0) in its 3-1 win at Valley City State (9/5). They recorded a season-best hitting percentage of .298 against Bismarck State (9/13).
 
Jordan Olson ranks first on the team in kills (133) and kills per set (2.51). Kennedy Lingenfelter paces the team in hitting percentage (.236). Megan Hardman runs the court with 192 assists (4.36 assists/set) Hardman has landed a team-best 14 services aces.
 
Defensively, Ketchum has registered a team-high 211 digs (3.98 digs/set), Jaiden Perez has tallied 61.0 blocks to lead the team.
 
 WELCOME TO THE BLOCK PARTY 
Three Bulldogs are ranked in the top 10 in the Frontier Conference in blocks per set. Jaiden Perez sits 3rd (1.17), Kennedy Lingenfelter ranks tied for seventh(0.94) and Jordan Olson sits 10th (0.91).
 
 ACCESS DENIED 
UMW ranks second in the league in blocks with 2.25 per set (119.0 total blocks). The Bulldogs have recorded at least seven blocks in five of their last six matches and 10 times this season.
 
 BACK-TO-BACK IMPACT 
Jordan Olson tallied 10 kills against both Rocky and Carroll, marking the second time this campaign that she has reached double digits in back-to-back matches.
 
 BREAKOUT PERFORMANCE 
Averi Look was a force to be reckoned with against the Fighting Saints, tallying a career-high and team-best 11 kills over the match.
 
 THE OPPONENTS 
MSU-Northern (8-7, 6-3 FC)
  • The Skylights have averaged 12.6 kills, 12.0 assists, 18.4 digs, 1.9 blocks, and 1.5 service aces per set so far in 2025.
  • As a team, MSU-Northern ranks third in the Frontier in both assists (12.10/set) and service aces (1.56/set).
  • They also are fourth in kills (13.38/set) and digs (18.47/set) while sitting fifth in hitting percentage (.195).
  • Macee Selmen paces the team in both kills (2.71) and assists (5.22) per set.
  • Lexi Jones is hitting a team-best .314 clip while also leading in blocks per set (1.15).
  • Baily Egan earns 4.57 digs per set.
  • Brooklyn Minden has landed a team-best 21 service aces on the year.
  • Jones sits fourth in the FC in blocks.
 
 
Providence (16-1, 9-0 FC)
  • The Argos have averaged 13.7 kills, 12.8 assists, 18.9 digs, 3.0 blocks, and 1.4 service aces per set so far in 2025.
  • They are first in the conference and on a 10-game win streak.
  • In the Frontier, Providence ranks first in blocks per set, second in both assists and kills per set, third in digs per set and fourth in hitting percentage (.222).
  • Nationally, they are ranked third overall. UP sits second in the NAIA in blocks, fourth in points (17.9), seventh in kills, eighth in digs, and ninth in assists. They also are tied for 18th in the country in hitting percentage.
  • Cabry Taylor leads the Argos in points (3.3) and hitting percentage (.343) while also leading in blocks (1.29).
  • Taylor sits second in the FC and is tied for 16th nationally in blocks. She also ranks third in the conference in hitting percentage and eighth in the Frontier in points.
  • Bella Green tops the team in kills per set (2.76).
  • Bella Thompson dishes out a team-best 10.51 assists pet set while also leading the team with 18 service aces.
  • Thompson ranks second in conference and seventh in the nation in assists.
  • Kyra Saiers paces UP in digs per set (5.36)
  • Saiers ranks third in the FC and tied for 16th in the nation in digs.  
 
 SERIES HISTORY 
The Bulldogs are 47-49 all time against the Skylights. The last outing between the two sides saw UMW earn the sweep at home on 11/2/24.
 
Montana Western is 22-44 all-time against Providence. In the most recent contest, Western fell 2-3 in a hard fought, five-set match on 11/16/24.
 
 LOOKING AHEAD 
Following the weekend, the Bulldogs return to Straugh Gymnasium for three more home contests. Up first, they host rival Montana Tech Oct. 8. First serve is set for 7 p.m. MT.
