Bulldogs Scare Off the Fighting Saints in Four Sets

DILLON, Mont. – The Montana Western volleyball team (12-14, 10-9 FC) defeated (RV) Carroll (15-12, 10-9 FC) in four sets (25-19, 23-25, 25-16, 25-23) Friday evening in Straugh Gymnasium
 
It marked the Bulldogs' second straight win against a ranked or receiving votes opponent (defeated then-24 Dakota State 3-2 Oct. 23).
 
"Tonight was a great team win against a really solid Carroll team," head coach Katie Lovett said. "We had multiple people in double-digit kills and digs, which contributed to our success tonight. Thanks to the great crowd tonight and the community of Dillon. We're looking forward to seeing everyone again tomorrow night after the football game for senior night."
 
NOTABLES
Madisyn Frazier posted a career-high 31 digs.
 
The Bulldogs reached 100 digs in the match, the most in a single match on the campaign.
 
Four players tallied double figures in both kills and digs.
 
The nine service aces are the most since Sept. 25, when Western landed nine in a 3-0 sweep over Rocky Mountain.
 
MATCH SUMMARY
Carroll won four consecutive points to open the match, but the Bulldogs remained persistent, tying the game at 11 before going on a 14-8 run to take set one 25-19. The Saints managed to even the score in the second frame with a narrow 25-23 victory. The Red and Black upped the pressure in the third and took the 2-1 lead with a statement 25-16 win. The final frame was another nail-biter, but this time Western prevailed 25-23 to win the match 3-1.

Western held the statistical advantage in nearly every category, including kills (64-49), assists (63-44), digs (100-86), and aces (9-3). Carroll won the battle in blocks (9-7).

LOOKING AHEAD
The Bulldogs return to Straugh Gymnasium tomorrow evening to take on Rocky Mountain in the final home match of the 2025 regular season. The match will serve as "Senior Night" for UMW. First serve is set for 5 p.m. MT.
