Bulldog Volleyball Preps for Mayville State and Valley City State

DILLON, Mont. – The Montana Western volleyball team (8-11, 6-6 FC) welcomes Mayville State (5-11, 3-8 FC) and Valley City State (6-10, 4-7 FC) to Straugh Gymnasium Friday and Saturday.

LAST TIME OUT
The Bulldogs took rival Montana Tech to five sets Wednesday, ultimately falling 3-2 in the match. It was just the second five setter of the 2025 campaign for UMW.
 
Against the Orediggers, Kennedy Lingenfelter paced the team in both kills (13) and blocks (4.0). Megan Hardman and Taylor Petersen shared the team high in assists with 20 each. Morgyn Harrison led the Bulldogs with 17 digs while Madisyn Frazier and Taylor Ketchum were also in double figures with 13 digs apiece. Hardman, Harrison, and Jayda Ward each landed two service aces in the match.
 
BULLDOG BEAT
Montana Western has tallied 757 kills, 704 assists, 1,072 digs, 148 blocks, and 96 aces service aces on the year. The team's best tally in kills (60), assists (59), and service aces (13), came in its five-set victory over Arizona Christian (8/30). UMW earned season highs in digs (83) in its 3-1 win against MSU-Northern (10/3) and blocks (13.0) in its 3-1 win at Valley City State (9/5). They recorded a season-best hitting percentage of .298 against Bismarck State (9/13).
 
Jordan Olson ranks first on the team in kills (145) and kills per set (2.59). Kennedy Lingenfelter paces the team in hitting percentage (.265). Megan Hardman runs the court with 266 assists (4.67 assists/set) and has landed a team-best 17 services aces.
 
Defensively, Ketchum has registered a team-high 268 digs (4.06 digs/set). Lingenfelter has tallied 62.0 blocks to lead the team.
 
WELCOME TO THE BLOCK PARTY
Two Bulldogs are ranked in the top 10 in the Frontier Conference in blocks per set. Jaiden Perez sits 3rd (1.17) and Kennedy Lingenfelter ranks seventh (0.97).
 
ACCESS DENIED
UMW ranks second in the league and 13th in the nation in blocks per set (2.24). Moreover, the Bulldogs have registered at least 7.0 blocks in seven of their last 10 matches.
 
FEELIN' FINE FROM THE SERVICE LINE
Western tallied eight service aces against Montana Tech, marking its third highest tally of the season.
 
SEEING DOUBLE-DOUBLE
Megan Hardman earned her third straight double-double against the Orediggers with a 20-assist, 12-dig performance. It came after she put up 27 assists and a career-high 16 digs against MSU-Northern and a season-high 28 assists and 11 digs against #3 Providences.
 
HARD HITTER
Kennedy Lingenfelter hit over .400 for the third time this season, posting a stout .407 hitting percentage against Montana Tech. She racked up 13 kills in 27 swings and committed just two errors on the night. Lingenfelter also posted a team-best 4.0 blocks.
 
ANSWERING THE CALL
Olivia Rosborough stepped up in a big way against the Orediggers, tallying a season-high 11 kills on 21 swings for a season-best .429 hitting percentage.
 
CAN YOU DIG IT?
Morgyn Harrison registered a career-high 17 digs against Montana Tech. It was also her third straight match with 10 or more digs and seventh on the campaign.
 
THE OPPONENTS
Mayville State (5-11, 3-8 FC)
  • The Comets are averaging 10.4 kills, 10.0 assists, 17.3 digs, 1.6 blocks, and 1.3 service aces per set in 2025.
  • Andrea Majchrzak paces the team in both kills per set (2.44) and attack percentage (.238).
  • Lindsey Nyhagen tallies a team-best 4.82 assists per set.
  • Tori Richter leads Mayville State and ranks second in the Frontier in digs per set (5.53).

  • As a team, Valley City State sits second in the conference in digs (18.89) and tied for fourth in blocks (2.14)
  • Macy Fridgen leads VCSU with 2.77 kills per set.
  • Danielle Hagler is hitting a team-high .294 clip.
  • Gracie Schumacher and Madden Bogenreif share the team lead in assists, each averaging 4.85 per set.
  • Morgan Freije is registering .92 blocks per set.
  • JayCee Richter leads the Vikings in both digs (5.98) and service aces (13). She leads the FC and ranks third in the nation in digs per set.
 
SERIES HISTORY
The Bulldogs are 3-2 all time against the Comets. Earlier this season, UMW swept MSU in North Dakota in their first-ever conference matchup.
 
Montana Western is 7-0 all time against Valley City State. Western earned the 3-1 win against the Vikings to open conference play earlier this season.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
Following the weekend, the Bulldogs head back on the road for matches at Bismarck State (10/17) and Dickinson State (10/18).
