UMW Men’s Basketball Upended by (RV) LC State 83-60 Friday Evening

BUTTE, Mont. – The UMW men's basketball program (4-1) suffered an 83-60 setback against LC State (2-1) in the Montana Tech Tip-Off Classic Friday evening.
 
"Credit to LC State, they came out and executed very well," head coach Patrick Jensen said. "We have to be better and respond from this one with a quick turnaround tomorrow."
 
STAT BREAKDOWN
The Bulldogs had an off-night shooting, posting 34.4 percent (21-61) from the floor, 23.8 percent (5-21) from three, and 72.2 percent (13-18) from the foul line.
 
UMW earned 36 rebounds, three assists, three blocks, and three steals in the game while tallying 18 points in the paint, six points off turnovers, seven second-change points, two fast-break points and 20 bench points.
 
NOTABLES
The Bulldogs recorded more than 35 rebounds for the fifth-straight game.
 
Jacob Ankeny recorded his fourth-straight multi-block game.
 
Emanuel Steward has scored in double figures in every contest this season.
 
LEADERBOARD
Steward led the game with a season-high 25 points, followed by Quincy Taylor with 10.
 
Billy Carlson pulled down a team-best six boards while Steward, David Young, and Mark Huber each tallied one steal
 
Ankeny led in both assists (two) and blocks (three).
 
GAME SUMMARY
The Bulldogs came out firing on all cylinders, scoring the first nine points of the game. The Warriors didn't stay down for long, however, and moved into the lead midway through the first period. LC State increased its lead to as many as 11, and led 40-34 at the break.
                                                                                                          
Steward poured in 20 first-half points while Young had four rebounds and Ankeny had two blocks.
 
At the break, Western was shooting 37.5 percent (12-32) from the field, 23.1 percent (3-13) from distance, and 87.5 percent (7-8) from the charity stripe.  
 
UMW's offense stalled in the second half, and LC State steadily increased its lead. The Bulldogs couldn't close the gap, and the Warriors ran away with the 23-point win.  
 
THE OTHER GUYS
LC State shot 49.2 percent (30-61) from the floor, 33.3 percent (6-18) from beyond the arc, and 81.0 percent (17-21) from the line. The Warriors put up 36 rebounds, nine assists, eight steals, and three blocks. Grayson Hunt led the team with 22 points, followed by John Lustig at 20. Lustig and Peyton Nordland shared the game-high with eight rebounds apiece. Jamare' Childs dished out a game-best three assists while Dylan Skaife and Elijah Kersey each snagged two steals. Kersey, Josh Salguero, and Trevor Manning each earned a block in the game.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
Western takes the court again tomorrow when it faces off against OUAZ in the second matchup of the Montana Tech Tip-Off Classic. First tip is set for 5 p.m. MT.
