UMW Men’s Basketball Falls to Carroll 95-71 Friday

DILLON, Mont. – The UMW men's basketball program (8-2, 3-1 FC) were clipped by Carroll (5-1, 4-0 FC) 95-71 Friday evening in Straugh Gymnasium
 
STAT BREAKDOWN
Western shot 39.7 percent (23-58) from the floor. 24.1 percent (7-29) from distance, and 54.5 percent (18-33) from the line in the contest.
 
The Bulldogs registered 43 rebounds, 12 assists, two steals, and two blocks.
 
They posted 30 points in the paint, three points off turnovers, 14 second-chance points, and 26 points off the bench.
 
LEADERBOARD
Kyle Gruhler led the team with 15 points, followed by Emanuel Steward with 13.
 
Billy Carlson and Kolter Merritt tied for the team high with seven rebounds each.
 
Steward shared the game-high with five assists while he and Gruhler each nabbed one steal.
 
Gruhler and Joshua Whiteside each posted a block.  
 
NOTABLES
Gruhler made at least three three-pointers for the fourth time in five games.
 
Steward posted his 10th-straight game with 10 or more points.
 
The Bulldogs pulled down over 40 rebounds for the fifth time in 2025-26.
 
GAME SUMMARY
The Bulldogs held their own through the first 10 minutes of play, but the visitors slowly increased their lead to 18, 51-33, by the half-time whistle.
                                                                                                          
Western shot 39.3 percent (11-28) from the field, 30.8 percent (4-13) from three, and 43.8 percent (7-16) from the charity strip in the first 20 minutes of action.  
 
UMW continued to fight on both ends of the floor in the second period, but couldn't quite manage to close the gap.
 
THE OTHER GUYS
The Fighting Saints shot 52.4 percent (33-63) from the field, 40.0 percent (10-25) from three, and 76.0 percent (19-25) from the foul line. They tallied 34 rebounds, 17 assists, ad 11 steals. Isaiah Crane led the game with 24 points while Kellen Harrison grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. Isaac Round tied for the game-high with five assists. Harrison also led all players with five steals.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
Western takes the court again tomorrow against (RV) Rocky Mountain. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. MT.
