UMW Volleyball Wraps Up Hells Canyon Grand Invitational

LEWISTON, Idaho – The Montana Western volleyball team (2-5) split the second day of competition at the Hells Canyon Grand Invitational, defeating Arizona Christian 3-2 in the first match of the day before falling to LC State 3-1. Jordan Olson and Kennedy Lingenfelter were both named to the all-tournament team for their efforts.

"This weekend we saw a lot of growth and glimpses of the team playing really well together," head coach Katie Lovett said. "While there's still plenty to work on, we are proud of the growth we were able to achieve. Jordan and Kennedy receiving all-tournament team was well deserved and we are excited to see them continue to grow throughout the season."

MATCH SUMMARY
Arizona Christian
It was a marathon match between the Bulldogs and Firestorm, going to five sets including extra points in the opener. A back-and forth set one saw ACU narrowly edge UMW 28-26 for the 1-0 advantage. Western evened things up in the second frame, however, grinding out the 25-22 win thanks to back-to back kills from Jordan Olson.
The Bulldogs took the lead 2-1 with a near wire-to-wire set three win (25-14) that included a 16-5 run to finish the game. Arizona Christian kept themselves alive with a 25-21 win in frame four, but UMW would not back down, scoring the final six points of the match to earn the 3-2 victory.

LC State
Montana Western fought valiantly in a 3-1 loss to tournament host LC State. The first set again went into extra points, with the Warriors just edging out the Bulldogs 29-27 to go up 1-0. UMW fought back in set two, earning the 25-23 victory to knot things at one apiece. LC State came on stronger in the third frame, pulling away at the end to take the set, 25-20. The final game was a nailbiter, with neither team able to gain more than a two-point advantage over the other. The Warriors took the match with a 25-23 set four win.
