DILLON, Mont. – The UMW men's basketball program (15-8, 10-7 FC) snapped a five-game skid in emphatic fashion Friday, defeating Bismarck State (1-22, 1-16 FC) 110-65.
 
The high-scoring affair saw all active Bulldogs see action with 11 players scoring at least one bucket and eight players tallying five or more points. Moreover, all 13 Western players earned at least one rebound.
 
STAT BREAKDOWN
UMW shot a blistering 60.6 percent (43-71) from the floor, 48.6 percent (18-37) from three, and 75.0 percent (6-8) from the foul line.
 
Western registered 32 rebounds, 26 assists, 13 steals, and four blocks.
 
The Bulldogs posted 50 points in the paint, 27 points off turnovers, 16 second-chance points, and 57 bench points.
 
LEADERBOARD
Kyle Gruhler dropped a game-high 20 points, with Quincy Taylor (17), Emanuel Steward (14), Jacksen Burckley (14), River Hurley (12), and Kolter Merrit (10) also reaching double figures.
 
David Young grabbed a team-high five rebounds while Billy Carlson handed out a game-best six assists.
 
Emanuel Steward snagged a game-high three steals.
 
Young, Joshua Whiteside, Carson Denning, and Kyler Engellant all registered a block.
 
NOTABLES
 
Carlson earned a career-high in assists.
 
Taylor and Burckley both posted season-bests in points.
 
Gruhler drained at least five threes for the sixth game this season.
 
Season-high 26 assists.
 
Every player who scored shot at least 50.0 percent from the field, including eight players who took three or more shots.
 
Six players scored in double figures.
 
Four players made three or more three-pointers.
 
GAME SUMMARY
The Bulldogs scored early and often against the Mystics, leading by 13 at the midpoint of the first half.  
 
Western led by as many as 28 late in the period, and was up 25, 51-26, as the teams headed to the locker rooms.
 
UMW shot 58.8 (20-34) from the field, 38.9 percent (7-18) from deep, and 100.0 percent (4-4) from the charity stripe over the first 20 minutes.
 
The hot hands continued for the Bulldogs in the second half, with the team making 11 shots from beyond the arc in the frame.
 
Bismarck State continued to put in effort throughout second period, but they were no match for Western, who ran away with the 45-point victory.
 
THE OTHER GUYS
The Mystics shot 41.4 percent (24-58) from the floor, 20.0 percent (3-15) from distance, and 82.4 percent (14-15) from the line. They grabbed 30 rebounds, six assists, three steals and a block. Houston Davis put up a team-high 18 points and game-high six rebounds. Carter Zeller (14) and Jah Gulley (13) were also in double figures in scoring. Gulley dished out a team-best three assists. Zeller, Kamayua Black Jr., and Alex Proctor tallied one steal apiece. David Shilling swatted the lone block of the game for BSC.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
Western takes the court again tomorrow against Dickinson State. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. MT.
