Montana Western Men’s Rodeo Takes Second, Women Finish Third at MSU Spring Rodeo #1

BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Montana Western men's team placed second and the women third in the Montana State Spring Rodeo #1.

The Bulldogs secured two event wins, with Coy Montgomery placing first in the Bareback while Konnor Ward and Carson Daniels won the Team Roping.

"It was good to get some rust knocked off and compete," head coach JT Robbins said. "We had a lot of bright spots and we're looking forward to the next rodeo."

LONG GO RESULTS
Bareback Riding
Montgomery posted a 72 in the first round of the Bareback for a second-place showing. Fellow Bulldog Jeremy Kay took third, earning a 70 in the long go.

Tie-Down Roping
Teagen Arnold clocked an 11.5 to finish second in the long go. Jake Deveraux and Cooper Pavkov tied for sixth, each registering 12.8-second runs.

Breakaway Roping.
Jacee Winward put up a stout 2.5-second run in the breakaway, tying for second in the long go. Tynell McInenly was also under three with a 2.7-second effort.

Saddle Bronc
Randon Boyce earned a 67 in his first saddle bronc ride of the spring, putting him in second place after the first round. Cardell Laughery sat fourth after the long go with a 61.

Steer Wrestling
Cooper Pavkov led all riders in the steer wrestling, clocking a 4.9-second try.

Goat Tying
Tavy Leno posted a 6.3 in the opening round of goat tying, leaving her in second-place heading into the short go.

Team Roping
Konnor Ward and Carson Daniels finished second in the team roping, registering a 9.3-second first run.

Bull Riding
Gavin Knutson tallied a 78 in his first effort in the bull riding, holding onto second place after one round.

SHORT GO RESULTS
Bareback Riding
Montgomery surged into the lead in the bareback with a 78 in the short go.

Tie-Down Roping
Arnold (14.1) and Pavkov (14.7) placed fourth and sixth, respectively, in the second round of the tie-down.

Breakaway Roping
McInenly delivered the fasted run of the evening with a 2.7 second effort in the breakaway. Jacee Winward also had a solid showing with a 4.2, placing fifth.

Saddle Bronc
Four Bulldogs landed clean runs in the short go saddle bronc, led by Cade Costello who finished third with a 70. Laughery (68, fourth), Denton Skjonsberg (57, T-fifth), and Chase Martin (57, T-fifth) round out the group.

Barrel Racing
Laura Haight placed second in the barrels with a 13.45-second run.

Team Roping
Ward and Daniels improved upon their first-round time, posting a 9.1 in the short go team roping.

Bull Riding
Knutson tied for third in the second round of the bull riding, earning an 80.

AVERAGE
Bareback Riding
Montgomery took home the bareback crown with an aggregate score of 150, totaling 60 points. Kay placed third with a 70 (one clean run), earning 40 points.

Team Roping
Ward and Daniels earned the win and 60 points in the Team Roping with a two-run average of 18.4 seconds.

Tie-Down Roping
Arnold posted a 25.6 over two runs to finish fourth (30 points) in the tie-down roping. Pavkov placed sixth (10 points) with a 27.5-second total time.

Breakaway Roping
McInenly put together two 2.7-second runs in the breakaway to finish second (50 points). Winward finished fifth (20 points) with a 6.7-second two-run time.

Saddle Bronc
Laughery posted a 129 in the saddle bronc average, good enough for a second place showing and 50 points. Boyce earned a 67 (one clean run) to finish fourth (30 points).

Bull Riding
Knutson earned an average score of 158 in the bull riding, placing second and earning 50 points for UMW.

Barrel Racing
Haight clocked a 27.19 over two runs in the barrels to take fifth for 20 points.
