Montana Western Men’s Team Wins MSU-Northern Rodeo

HAVRE, Mont. – The Montana Western men's rodeo team earned the win while the women placed fourth at the MSU-Northern rodeo this weekend.

"We're really excited about the men's team performance and how many individuals stepped up to improve their chances in the region race," head coach JT Robbins said. "Also, it was good to see some of the women's team show up and compete well."

The Bulldogs won four events in the short go while also registering two wins in the average.

Coy Montgomery (bareback) and Gavin Knutson (bull riding) each won the short go and the average in their respective events.

Josie Robbins placed first in the goat tying in the championship round while Cade Costello also got the Saturday evening win in the saddle Bronc.

LONG GO RESULTS
Bareback Riding
Montgomery placed second in the long go with a score of 69, followed by Jeremy Kay in third with a 58.

Tie-Down Roping
Teagen Arnold finished fourth in the tie-down after posting an 11.6-second run. Jake Deveraux registered a 12.4-second effort to place sixth.

Breakaway Roping.
Tavy Leno's 2.6-second run in the breakaway put her in sixth after the first round.

Saddle Bronc
Cardell Laughery finished third in the saddle bronc with a 64 in his first ride.

Steer Wrestling
Cooper Pavkov put up a 5.2-second effort in the long-go steer wrestling, putting him in second heading into the short go.

Goat Tying
Brooke Richey and Kaylee Kesl tied for fifth in the goat tying, both posting 7-second runs.

Barrel Racing
Kesl also placed fourth in the barrels with a 13.48 in the long go.

Team Roping
Pavkov and Deveraux placed fourth in the first round of team roping with an 11.8-second effort.

Bull Riding
Knutson earned an 84 in the bull riding to put him atop the leaderboard heading into the short go.

SHORT GO RESULTS
Bareback Riding
Montgomery (78) and Kay (65) went one-two in the championship round of the bareback riding.

Tie-Down Roping
Arnold finished third in the tie-down, posting a 12.1 in the round.

Breakaway Roping
Brylan Garrett finished sixth in the short go breakaway with a 4.3-second run.

Saddle Bronc
Costello laid down an 83 to win the short go in the saddle bronc. Laughery finished second with an 80.5 while Chase Martin placed fifth with a 64.

Steer Wrestling
Pavkov finished fourth in the short-go steer wrestling with a 5.0-second run.

Goat Tying
Robins earned the win in the championship round with a 6.3-second run in the goat tying.

Barrel Racing
Teely Bott (13.56) and Kesl (14.01) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the barrels.

Bull Riding
Knutson posted another 84 in the short go to take the win in the bull riding.

AVERAGE
Bareback Riding
Montgomery (147) won the average and Kay (123) placed second overall. The two combined for 110 points for the Bulldogs.

Tie-Down Roping
Arnold earned 40 points for Western with a third-place finish in the tie-down, posting a combined time of 23.7 seconds.

Breakaway Roping
Garrett placed sixth in the overall breakaway standings, taking home five points.

Saddle Bronc
Laughery finished second in the average for the saddle bronc with a 144.5, earning 50 points.

Steer Wrestling
Pavkov took third overall in the steer wrestling with a combined time of 10.2 seconds. He won 40 points for the Bulldogs.

Goat Tying
Robbins tied for third in the average goat tying with a 13.6-second aggregate time, earning 35 points.

Barrel Racing
Bott finished fourth (27.22) and Kesl placed sixth (27.59) in the overall for barrels, combining for 40 points.

Team Roping
Pavkov and Deveraux finished fifth overall in the team roping, earning 20 points.

Bull Riding
Knutson took home the average title in the bull riding with a 168 overall score. He earned 60 points for Western in the process.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Bulldogs will compete in back-to-back rodeos hosted by Miles CC next weekend. The first rodeo takes place April 23-24 while the second is set for April 25-26.
