Montana Western Men’s Rodeo Wraps Up Round One at CNFR

CASPER, Wyo . – The Montana Western men's rodeo team completed the first go at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo., Monday. All eight Bulldogs will compete in three rounds in attempt to qualify for the championship round Saturday (6/20).

"We're good, there's lots of rodeo left," head coach JT Robbins said.

The highlight of round one came in the bull riding, with Gavin Knutson scoring an 82 to lead all competitors.

In the tie-down roping, Jake Deveraux posted a 10.1-second run, putting him in sixth after the first go.

Jeremy Kay earned a 67.50 on his first bareback attempt, sitting 25th heading into his second ride.

Cade Costello competed in both the first and second go for the saddle bronc, earning a two-ride score of 126.25.

Cardell Laughery posted no score in his first saddle bronc ride and will compete in his second go Tuesday.

Both Bulldog team-roping pairs (Knutson/ Luke Garrison and Cooper Pavkov/ Bry Severe) no-timed in the first go round. They will compete again Tuesday in the second go.

LOOKING AHEAD
Seven-of-eight Bulldogs are back in action tomorrow to continue the second go round. Competing Tuesday is Gavin Knutson (bull riding, team roping), Luke Garrison (team roping) Jeremy Kay (bareback), Cooper Pavkov (team roping), Bry Severe (team roping), Cardell Laughery (saddle bronc), and Jake Deveraux (tie-down).
