DILLON, Mont. – The Montana Western volleyball team (5-11, 4-5 FC) battled hard in a 3-1 loss to #8 Providence (12-4, 6-3 FC) Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs were strong at the net, recording 13.0 total blocks. Five different players had three or more stuff in the contest.
NOTABLES
Madisyn Frazier earned a career high in digs.
Kennedy Lingenfelter and
Antonia Duncan posted season-bests with 7.0 and 5.0 blocks, respectively.
Jaiden Perez earned at least 6.0 blocks for fourth time on the campaign.
Western recorded the second-highest totals of the season in both blocks and digs.
LEADERBOARD
- Warburton led the team with 11 kills, followed by Look with nine and Lingenfelter with eight.
- Lingenfelter hit a team-high .250 clip.
- Sophie Worden (21) and Jayda Ward (16) combined for 37 assists.
- Warburton, Ward, Jaiden Perez, and Madisyn Frazier each tallied one ace.
- Lingenfelter put up a team-best 7.0 blocks with Perez and Antonia Duncan close behind at 6.0 and 5.0, respectively.
- Frazier led all players with 33 digs.
MATCH SUMMARY
The visitors took an early lead in set one to lead by five, 14-9, midway through. The Bulldogs fought their way back within one point and later held off three set-points before the Argos ultimately went up 1-0 after a 25-23 win.
The second frame was even more evenly matched, featuring seven tie-scores. Providence pulled away late, but UMW pulled back once again. UP took a 2-0 lead with an identical 25-23 set two score.
The Bulldogs were ferocious in the third, outscoring the visitors 13-4 to open the period. They continued to stretch the lead and put the set out of reach of the Argos, forcing a fourth set with a 25-15 win.
In the final frame, errors hindered Western's momentum, allowing Providence to seal the win with a 25-17 set win.
SPLIT BOX
The Bulldogs held the statistical advantage in nearly every category. They edged the Argos in points (63.0-53.0), kills (46-40), aces (4-3), blocks (13-10), and assists (43-38). Providence out earned UMW in digs (90-88).
PROVIDENCE
Martyna Fiedler led the game with 13 kills, followed by Cabry Badley with 12. Badley also led all players in both hitting percentage (.370) and blocks (8.0). Araleigh Arnold (20) and Marli Lopeman (17) combined for 37 assists. Kyra Saiers, Isabelle Cahall, and Bree MacDonald each recorded one service ace. MacDonald tallied a team-best 22 digs.
ON THE HORIZON
The Bulldogs are back in action next Wednesday when they travel to Billings, Mont. to take on Rocky Mountain.
