Bulldog VB Opens Frontier Play at Valley City State and Mayville State

DILLON, Mont. – 
The Montana Western volleyball team (1-6), heads to North Dakota this week for matches against Valley City State (3-5, 1-0 FC) and Mayville State (0-5, 0-1 FC). The trip marks the beginning of Frontier Conference action for the Bulldogs.

 AND THAT'S WHAT YOU MISSED… 
The Bulldogs slipped to 1-6 on the year after three losses at the I-84 Classic. They fell to then-#2 EOU (0-3), #18 College of Idaho (2-3), and #15 The Master's (0-3).  
 
vs. #2 Eastern Oregon
Against the Mountaineers Kennedy Lingenfelter led the team in kills (five) while Sophie Worden and Maggie Schneiter dished out eight assists apiece. Lingenfelter, Schneiter, and Worden each landed one ace. Madisyn Frazier earned a team-best 13 digs, and Lingenfelter and Dani Brown shared the team lead in blocks with three each.
 
vs. 18 College of Idaho
The Bulldogs fought back from down 2-0 to force a deciding set against the Yotes. Antonia Duncan registered a team-best 11 kills. Jayda Ward posted 23 assists while Worden dropped two service aces. Frazier tallied 16 digs and Jaiden Perez recorded 7.0 blocks.
 
vs. #15 The Master's
Western went toe-to-toe with The Master's, falling by just two points in each set. Warburton, Duncan, and Averi Look totaled nine kills apiece to share the team-high.
Ward earned a team-best 19 assists while Warburton landed the lone ace of the match for UMW. Frazier tallied a game-high tying 13 digs and Lingenfelter led all players with 4.0 total blocks.

 BULLDOG BREAKDOWN 
The Bulldogs are averaging 11.3 kills, 10.0 assists, 1.2 aces, 12.3 digs, and 1.7 blocks per set on the campaign.
 
The team's best tally in kills (55) and digs (61) came against Campbellsville (8/15). UMW recorded season-highs in points (68.0), assists (48), and total blocks (10.0) against College of Idaho (8/28) and landed a season-best eight aces at OLLU (8/14). Finally, they recorded a season-best .254 hitting percentage against The Master's (8/29).

 DOUBLE-DOUBLE WHAMMY 
Sophomore setter Jayda Ward recorded her first career double-double against The Master's. She tallied 23 assists and 10 digs in the match.
 
 DIG DEEP 
Madisyn Frazier led the Bulldogs in digs in every match last weekend. She registered 13, 16, and 13 digs, against EOU, CI, and TMU, respectively.
 
 LUCKY NUMBER 7 
Antonia Duncan set or matched seven career highs at the I-84 Classic. Against College of Idaho, she recorded career-bests in points (13.0), kills (11), total attacks (28), block assists (four), and total blocks (4.0). She also hit a career-high .421 against The Master's. She matched her career-best with an assist against CI.
 
 ALL OVER THE STAT SHEET 
Savana Warburton had an impressive showing last week. She led the Bulldogs in hitting percentage (.250) against the Mountaineers, in total attacks (40) against the Yotes, and in kills (9), total attacks (28), and service aces (one) against the Mustangs.
 
 CAN'T RESIST THE ASSIST 
Maggie Schneiter matched her career-high with eight assists against Eastern Oregon.
 
 BRICK WALL 
Jaiden Perez earned a game-high 7.0 blocks against College of Idaho. It is her best single-game tally since 9/5/25 when she also recorded 7.0 against VCSU.
 
 NARROW MARGINS 
Six of the Bulldogs 11 sets played at the I-84 Classic were determined by just two points. Moreover, two of those sets required extra points to decide a winner.
 
 BLOCK PARTY 
Montana Western has recorded at least five total blocks in five of its seven games played this season, including a season-best 10.0 at College of Idaho.
 
 SCOUTING REPORT 
Valley City State (3-5, 1-0 FC)
  • The Vikings are posting 11.04 kills, 10.15 assists, 1.58 aces, 15.46 digs, and 1.04 blocks per set.
  • Mady Geist is leading the team with 3.15 kills per set, followed by Kadie Kocka (2.38) and Molly Bjornbey (1.50).
  • Geist also paces the team with a .307 hitting clip.
  • Gracie Schumacher dishes out a team-high 4.42 assists per game with Madden Bogenreif close behind at 4.27.
  • Schumacher also leads the Vikings with 12 service aces on the year.
  • Annika Pulju is posting a team-best 3.96 digs per set while Geist leads in blocks at 0.58 per set.
 
Mayville State (0-5, 1-0 FC)
  • The Comets are averaging 10.6 kills, 9.6 assists, 1.4 aces, 14.9 digs, and 1.9 blocks per set in 2026.
  • Andrea Majchrzak paces the team with 2.45 kills per set, followed by Cadynce Dewitz (1.88) and Trinity Mayencourt (1.71).
  • Danica Hanson is hitting a team-best .325 while also leading the team in assists per set (3.65).
  • Zenna Krull ranks second on the team in assists per set at 3.18.
  • Alivia Peterson has landed a team-best six service aces.
  • Tori Richter leads the team in digs per set (4.76) and Majchrzak is putting up a team-high 1.09 blocks per set.
 
 SERIES HISTORY 
The Bulldogs are 7-1 all-time against VCSU and 4-2 all-time against MSU. Last season, UMW went 1-1 against the Vikings and earned the season sweep against the Comets.
 
 ON THE HORIZON 
The Bulldogs will play three matches next week, beginning with a mid-week contest at rival Montana Tech (9/9). Then they face off against Dickinson State (9/11) and Bismarck State (9/12) for their first home matches of the season.
