WHITEFISH, Mont., Nov. 14, 2021 — Frontier Conference Commissioner Kent Paulson announced the 2021 Frontier Conference All-Conference volleyball honors, including All-Conference Team, All-Freshmen Team, each team's NAIA Champions of Character recipient, and individual awards. Three Bulldogs,
Danyel Martin,
Kelsey Goddard, and
Rylee Nickodemus, were among those to receive awards.
Martin, the 6-2 middle blocker from McAllister, Montana, was selected as part of the All-Conference All-Freshmen Team. Martin started in all 23 matches this season. She totaled 162 kills (1.95/set), hitting 0.270% on 411 total attacks. Martin ranked seventh in the nation with 41 solo blocks; she tallied 43 block assists for a total of 84 blocks this season.
"Danyel finally getting to play this year was a long time coming and something I know she was more than ready for. We ran a lot of our offense through her and she was able to step up well as a freshman. She was also our first line of defense in blocking and was a force at the net all year, putting her at seventh in the nation for solo blocks," Coach Lovett says.
Kelsey Goddard, a freshman libero from Las Vegas, Nev., received honors for the All-Conference All-Freshmen Team. She appeared in all 23 matches, averaging 6.46 digs/set in conference play (eighth in the nation) and 5.94 digs/set overall (tenth in the nation). Goddard recorded a total of 493 digs, 48 assists, and eight service aces.
Lovett says, "It's very exciting she's getting recognized as one of the top freshmen in the conference. She is ranked in the Top 10 nationally in digs per set in overall play and conference play, which hasn't been reached since former All-American, Dylan Fowler, played here. Kelsey made steady improvement throughout the season and her drive to get better is exciting for the rest of her college career."
Martin and Goddard were the only two freshmen in the conference to have Top 10 statistical national rankings.
Rylee Nickodumus, a redshirt freshman from Windsor, Colo., is Montana Western's NAIA Champions of Character recipient. NAIA Champions of Character embody five core values—integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership—in order to promote a positive sports culture, both on and off the court or field.
Rylee appeared in 16 matches this season. She recorded eight assists, five aces, and 14 digs.
"Rylee has always stepped in to whatever role she has been asked to play with drive, determination, and gratitude. Her 'team-first' attitude is something special and hasn't been overlooked by her teammates," Coach Lovett says.
