BUTTE, Mont.—The Bulldogs of Montana Western (9-4, 0-1) dropped their first Frontier Conference game of the season to the Montana Tech Orediggers (8-3, 1-0), 75-87.
 
The Bulldogs led the Orediggers for the first five-and-a-half minutes of the game. The teams traded points up until six minutes left in the first half—tied 30 to 30—when Montana Tech went on an 18 to 10 point run to leave the score at 40 to 48 at the half.
 
Montana Western trailed behind the Orediggers for the remainder of the game. The Bulldogs came within one point of the Orediggers two minutes into the second half, but Montana Tech continued to hold onto their lead and extend the point gap in the latter part of the second half.
 
Both teams shot over 50 percent from the field, with 51 percent shooting from Montana Western and 57 percent from Montana Tech. In addition, both teams shot well from the arc—Montana Tech put up nine of 13 from the 3-point line (69 percent) while the Bulldogs drained 10 of 35 (40 percent).

"[We] have to be better!" coach Mike Larsen said.

• Montana Western had 12 turnovers; Montana Tech had five.
• Jalen Hodges led Montana Western with 23 points and five rebounds.  
• Ky Kouba added 20 points to the Bulldogs' score, shooting 50 percent from the 3-point line.
• Bulldog Colter Miller tallied a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
• Jamal Stephenson dished out five assists for Montana Western.
• Sindou Diallo led the Orediggers with 18 points.
