DILLON, Mont.—A strong first half for the Montana Western Bulldogs (9-5, 0-2) wasn't enough to push them past No. 4 Carroll College Saints (12-0, 2-0), 70-60.

Montana Western led the Saints for the entire first half, extending the lead to a game-high 11 points with one minute left in the first. The Bulldogs had an incredible 20 minutes of play; they shot 55 percent from the 3-point line and 52 percent from the field.

The Saints started the second half with a 15 to zero run; the Bulldogs first score of the second half was after seven minutes of play. Montana Western was able to cut the Saints' lead to two points with three minutes left, but four consecutive offensive rebounds (a one minute and 28 second possession) under the Saints' basket left the Bulldogs with no time to recover.

"[Our] guys played really hard and together for about 35 minutes…the problem is that we have to play a full 40 minutes to play at this level," coach Mike Larsen said. "[I am] very proud of this team and how they are battling day in and day out. We will keep getting better and be ready next time."

• Carroll had 14 offensive boards, four of which were in one possession.
• Jamal Stephenson scored 22 points and dished out five assists for the Bulldogs.
• Colter Miller, Jalen Hodges, Tanner Haverfield, and Jamal Stephenson each grabbed four rebounds for Montana Western.
• Jovan Sljivancanin led the Saints with 26 points and 16 rebounds.
