BILLINGS, Mont.—The Bulldogs of Montana Western (18-12, 7-8) topped the Rocky Battlin' Bears (11-16, 4-11) in overtime, 87-82.
It was a closely matched first half, with the Battlin' Bears leading by two, 38-36. Montana Western shot 52 percent from the field (14-27), while Rocky shot 43 percent (15-35).
The Bulldogs trailed most of the second half. With three minutes left in regulation, Rocky led 69-61. Montana Western scored on three consecutive possessions and held the Battlin' Bears to no score for two minutes. With 45 seconds left,
Jalen Hodges made a jump shot to leave the Bulldogs down by one, 68-69. Rocky answered with another two, but
Max Clark made a contested layup and drew the foul; he made his free throw to send the game into overtime, 71-71.
In overtime, the Bulldogs only shot four field goals; ten of their 16 points came from free throws. The Battlin' Bears added 11 to the board in overtime.
"I'm so proud of these guys," coach
Mike Larsen said. "To come on the road and battle out a win like that is pretty amazing."
