DILLON, Mont.—The Montana Western Bulldogs (19-12, 8-8) downed the Argos of Providence (11-18, 2-14) in the quarterfinals of the Frontier Conference postseason basketball tournament, 68-62.
The Bulldogs trailed behind the Argos for the first six minutes of play, but once the Bulldogs tied up the game at nine, they continued to hold a strong lead over the Argos. Thirty of the Bulldogs' 39 points in the first half came from the arc; they went 10-25 (40 percent). The Argos only matched two 3-pointers and totaled 22 points for the half.
The Argos cut the Bulldogs' 20-point halftime lead to eight with 10 minutes left in the half. Montana Western regained an 11-point lead on the next possession, but the Argos continued to pressure the Bulldogs' lead throughout the remainder of the half. With two minutes left in regulation, the Argos cut the Bulldogs' lead to three, 65-62. The Bulldogs still held a three-point lead with 45 seconds to go. The Argos' zone defense kept the Bulldogs out of the key. With seconds left on the shot clock,
Ky Kouba drove down the middle and scored a floater from the circle to secure a five-point lead.
"It wasn't pretty, but a win's a win," coach

The Bulldogs will play No. 14 Montana Tech in Butte on Friday at 7 p.m. in the semifinals of the Frontier Conference postseason tournament. This is the first time since 2018 that the Bulldog men have won a postseason game.
