This Week in Bulldog Athletics

DILLON, Mont. – The upcoming week in Bulldog athletics will see the Bulldog Men's and Women's Basketball teams in action on the road to Great Falls and back at home on Saturday.
 
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The UMW Women's Basketball team comes into the week at 21-4 overall with a 9-3 conference record. The Bulldogs are in second in the conference standings, where they sit behind Carroll College who is 20-5 overall this season. Montana Western is ranked No. 15 in the latest NAIA poll. Mesa King ranks second in the NAIA and at the top of the Frontier standings in shooting percentage with a 64.6. Brynley Fitzgerald leads the Frontier Conference in scoring with 17.8 points per game. She is also third in the conference in rebounds with 7.2 boards per game. Joelnell Momberg holds the third highest three-point percentage as she has a 37.5 percentage from the arc.
 
The Bulldogs will take on the University of Providence on Thursday in Great Falls, Mont. The Bulldogs are 2-0 over the Argos this season after the Jan. 5 home win and Jan. 21 road victory. The Argos are in fourth in the conference standings and are 14-11 overall this season and 4-8 in conference play. They are led in scoring by Reed Hazard who averages 12.6 points per game.
 
Following the Thursday game, the Bulldogs head back to Dillon for a game against the MSU-Northern Skylights. The Bulldogs are 2-0 overall the Skylights so far this season after they won both games in Havre, Mont. The Skylights are currently 7-18 on the season, winless in their Frontier Conference slate of 12 games, and sit at the bottom of the rankings. They are led in scoring by Briaunna McCullough who is averaging 13.0 points per game for the Skylights.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
The UMW Men's Basketball team enters the week on a high note after defeating Carroll College at home last Saturday 63-57. They are now sitting at 9-16 on the season and 4-8 in conference play. Montana Western is led in scoring by Jamal Stephenson who ranks third in the conference with 14 points per game. Michael Haverfield leads the Frontier from the arc and ranks 10th in the NAIA with a 51.4 three-point shooting percentage.

The Bulldogs will travel to Great Falls, Mont. to take on the University of Providence Argos on Thursday evening. The Bulldogs are 0-2 with the Argos this season. Back on Jan. 5, the Bulldogs lost in a heartbreaking 74-73 game. They followed up with posting a season high 89 points on Jan. 21, but ultimately fell 95-89. The Argos are 13-12 on the season and 4-5 in conference play. They enter the matchup following a road loss to the MSU-Northern Lights. The Argos are led in scoring by Kenny Curtis who is averaging 12.9 points per game.

Following the Thursday night matchup, the Bulldogs head back to Dillon for a home matchup against the MSU-Northern Lights. The Lights are 1-1 with the Bulldogs this season and this will be the first time the Lights have traveled to Dillon this season. They are 18-7 overall this season and 7-5 in the Frontier Conference. They are in second in the Frontier standings and are led in scoring by Jesse Keltner who is averaging 13.1 points per game.
