HAMILTON, Mont. – The Montana Western rodeo teams closed out regional competition on Saturday evening with the annual University of Montana Spring Rodeo.
The Bulldog men took third overall in the team standings while the women finished in fifth on the weekend, but qualified numerous individuals for the short-go.
Top Placings
Trevor Kay won the average in bareback riding on the weekend. He totaled 146 between his two rides.
The team roping pair of
Jake Deveraux and
Teegan Leno finished fourth on the weekend, combining for a 9.5/1 in the average.
Tori Murnion finished fifth in the breakaway roping average, totaling an 8.4 in both of her runs.
Cade Costello placed fifth in saddle bronc riding after he scored a 70-point ride on Friday night.
Region Winners
After a strong season, the Bulldog men repeat as the reserve champions in the Big Sky Region and will return as a team to the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) in June.
Gavin Knutson and Kay each repeated as Big Sky Region champions in the bull riding and bareback riding.
Leno and Deveraux also claimed the team roping crown and finished atop the regional standings.
Freshman Costello finished second in the region for saddle bronc riding.
Cooper Pavkov and
Luke Murphy finished second overall in the region in team roping and
Jhet Murphy claimed third as a header in team roping.
Tavy Leno is the lone Bulldog from the women's team to qualify for the CNFR. She finished in third place in the region in both the goat tying and in breakaway roping.
Up Next
The College National Finals Rodeo will be in Casper, Wyo. from June 9 through June 15. The position draw for the event will be announced on June 2 for the athletes competing in the event.
