UMW Men’s Rodeo Places Second, Women’s Team Finish Fourth at MCC #2

MILES CITY, Mont. – The Montana Western men's rodeo team took second and the women's team placed fourth at the second Miles CC Rodeo Sunday.

"Coming down to the wire I'm excited about the kids who have positioned themselves with a chance to advance," head coach JT Robbins said.

UMW won two events in the short go as well as three events in the average.

Kaylee Kesl took home both the short go and average wins in the barrels

Cardell Laughery won the short go in saddle bronc while Randon Boyce claimed the top spot in the average of the event. Gavin Knutson also picked up the average win in the bull riding.

LONG GO RESULTS
Bareback Riding
Jeremy Kay earned a 69 his opening ride on the bareback, placing first in the long go.

Tie-Down Roping
Bry Severe clocked a 12.0-second run in the tie-down roping for a fifth-place finish.

Breakaway Roping.
Kelsi Costello posted a 2.6 in the breakaway roping, tying for fourth in the first round.

Saddle Bronc
The Bulldogs took the top three spots in the long go saddle bronc. Boyce led the way with a 79 followed by Laughery (75) and Cade Costello (73).

Goat Tying
Josie Robbins earned the third spot in the long-go goat tying with a 6.7-second effort.

Barrel Racing
Kaylee Kesl snagged the lead in the barrels with a 13.94-second opening run. Georgia King was in sixth after the first round with a 14.1.

Team Roping
Racin Allen and Rance Allen (UMT) finished fourth in the team roping with an 8.6-second effort. Konnor Ward and Carson Daniels were in sixth after the long go, registering a 9.9.

Bull Riding
Gavin Knutson put up the strongest ride in the bull riding, receiving an 82 in the long go.

SHORT GO RESULTS
Bareback Riding
Kay also finished second in the short go bareback with a 66 in the round.

Tie-Down Roping
Severe took fifth again in the championship round with a 16.0-second run in the tie-down.

Breakaway Roping
Kelsi Costello finished fifth in the breakaway with a 12.5 in the short go.

Saddle Bronc
Laughery posted a 73 in the saddle bronc to win the short go while Boyce (72) and Cade Costello (68) placed second and third, respectively.

Steer Wrestling
Teagen Arnold placed second in the short go steer wrestling with a 5.6-second effort.

Goat Tying
Robbins finished second in the championship round after laying down a 6.6-second run in the goat tying.

Barrel Racing
Kaylee Kesl won the short go barrels with a 13.88-second ride.

Team Roping
Knutson and Luke Garrison placed second in the short go team roping with a 6.8.

Bull Riding
Westen Wade finished third in the second round of bull riding with a 66. Knutson took fourth with a 62 and Kay placed sixth with a 52.

AVERAGE
Bareback Riding
Kay tallied an aggregate score of 135 to finish second in the bareback and earn 50 points for UMW.

Tie-Down Roping
Severe's 28.0-second two-run score put him in sixth in the average and earned Western 10 points in the tie-down.

Breakaway Roping
Kelsi Costello took home fifth pace and 20 points in the breakaway with a combined time of 15.1 seconds.

Saddle Bronc
The Bulldogs also finished in the top three spots in the average saddle bronc. Boyce earned the win with an aggregate of 151, followed by Laughery (148) and Cade Costello (141). The trio combined for 150 points for UMW.

Steer Wrestling
Arnold's two-run time of 29.3 seconds earned him sixth place and 10 points for the Bulldogs in the steer wrestling.

Goat Tying
Robbins took home second in the average goat tying with a 13.3-second combined time. She won 50 points for Western in the process.

Barrel Racing
Kesl's two-round time of 27.82 landed won her the title and 60 points in the average barrels.

Team Roping
Knutson and Garrison placed second in the average team roping with a combined time of 18.5 seconds. Teely Bott and Severe placed fourth with a one-run time of 7.8 seconds. The two pairs tallied 75 total points for UMW.

Bull Riding
Knutson took home the average title in the bull riding with a 144 overall score, earning 60 points for Western.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Bulldogs are back in action May 1-2 when they compete in the Montana Rodeo in Missoula. The event is the last of the 2025-26 regular season.
