CODY, Wyo. — The Montana Western men's and women's rodeo teams traveled out to compete in the Trapper Stampede #1 and #2 this past weekend.
The Bulldog men finished in second in the team standings in both nights of the weekend. In night one, UMW was led in scoring by
Jake Deveraux, scoring in both team roping and tie down roping.
Cole Trexler led the UMW men on night two with point finishes in steer wrestling, tie down, and team roping, coming up just shy in the men's all-around standings.
The Bulldog women claimed fourth on night one after a close point differential that put them just behind the University of Montana. They followed up in third place on the second night in Cody.
Tavy Leno and
Teely Bott led the Bulldogs in each night in scoring.
Top Performers Rodeo #1
- Cade Costello led the night in saddle bronc riding with a 75-point ride.
- The team roping pair of Cole Trexler and Kyler Erickson finished on top in team roping with a 6.3 on the night.
- Gavin Knutson led in bull riding, placing first following a 71-point ride.
- Tavy Leno's 6.9 in goat tying placed her in second for the event.
- Cooper Pavkov and Jake Deveraux combined in team roping to finish second in the event with a 7.4. Deveraux also finished fourth in tie down roping with a 10.5. Cooper also finished in eighth in steer wrestling with an 8.5.
- Tynell Mclnenly finished in second in breakaway roping on a 3.5 in the event.
- Samantha Gerlach placed third in breakaway roping with a 3.7.
- Cooper Olaveson was the lone Bulldog to score in bareback riding, finishing in third with a 62-point ride.
- Jaycie Richey's 4.0 in breakaway roping placed her in fourth for the event.
- Paul O'Hair recorded a 66-point ride in saddle bronc riding to place fourth on the night.
- Team roping partners and brothers Racin Allen and Rance Allen finished in fifth in team roping with an 8.8.
- Chase Martin scored a 55-point ride in saddle bronc riding to place fifth.
- Brooke Richey and Charlee Resch both finished in fifth in goat tying after matching times of 7.5.
- Jade Ramon finished in sixth in tie down roping with an 11.0.
- Grant Kiechler finished in sixth in steer wrestling with an 8.3 on the night.
- Laura Haight finished in eighth in barrel racing with a 17.83.
Top Performers Rodeo #2
- Knutson was the lone bull rider to record a score on the night. He finished with an 84-point ride. He also placed eighth in tie down roping with a 12.7.
- Saddle bronc riders Costello and Martin led the night in the event, each scoring a 74-point ride to tie for first place.
- Jeremy Kay finished in second in bareback riding with a 71-point ride.
- Tatum Hansen finished second in steer wrestling with a 5.0 on the night.
- Trexler finished second in team roping with partner Erickson with a 7.6. He also came in third in tie down roping, scoring an 11.6 and seventh in steer wrestling with an 11.9.
- The team roping pair of Teely Bott and Desi Coombs finished third in the event with a 7.9. Bott also finished in seventh in barrel racing with a 17.54. Coombs also claimed seventh in breakaway roping with a 3.4.
- O'Hair finished in fourth in saddle bronc riding, claiming a 68-point ride.
- Barrel racer Haight finished in fourth for the night with a 17.49.
- Kiechler finished in fifth in steer wrestling after he recorded a 7.1.
- Olaveson placed fifth in bareback riding with a 54-point ride.
- In goat tying, Leno finished in fifth in the standings with a 6.9 in the event.
- Ramon's 12.6 in tie down roping placed him in seventh place.
- Resch finished in eighth in goat tying with a 7.5.
Up Next
The Bulldogs will continue their fall season this upcoming weekend in Glendive, Mont. for the Dawson Community College Rodeo. The rodeo will be held at the Dawson County Fairgrounds on Friday Sept. 13 through Saturday Sept. 14.
