UMW Volleyball Outlasts Dickinson State 3-2 Saturday Afternoon

DICKINSON, N.D. – The Montana Western volleyball team (10-13, 8- 8 FC) emerged victorious over Dickinson State (11-10, 7-9 FC) after a marathon five-set match (27-25, 23-25, 21-25, 28-26, 15-10) Saturday.

"The team really dug in and showed a lot of grit and determination today," Head Coach Katie Lovett said. "Dickinson is a well-coached team and were coming off a great win the night before so we knew we would have our work cut out for us. I'm proud of how the team pulled together today."

NOTABLES8
UMW tallied season-bests in kills (71), assists (67), and digs (97) while matching a season-high in blocks (13.0).

Taylor Petersen posted her second straight match with at least 30 assists (32).

Morgyn Harrison earned a season-best 24 digs.

Four Bulldogs reached double figures in kills.

MATCH SUMMARY
It was a back-and-forth affair from the get-go, with Western taking the opening set in extras, 27-25. The Blue Hawks leveled the match 1-1 in the second frame, 25-23, and took the lead 2-1 in the third frame 25-21. UMW would not be deterred, however, and forced a fifth set with a 28-26 extra-point win in set four. The Bulldogs sealed the match with a dominant 15-10 win in the final frame.

LEADERBOARD

Averi Look led the Bulldogs with 16 kills while Kennedy Lingenfelter (15) Dani Brown (12), and Maxine Hoagland (10) were also in double figures
Petersen led the team with 32 assists, followed by Megan Hardman at 27.
Harrison tallied a game-high 24 digs with Savana Warburton close behind at 21.
Rosborough earned a game-high 7.0 blocks.
Warburton, Hardman, and Jayda Ward each landed one service ace.

SPLIT BOX
Montana Western held the statistical advantage in kills (71-58), assists (67-53), digs (93-81), and blocks (13-12), but were bested at the service line (3-7).

LOOKING AHEAD
The Bulldogs return to Straugh Gymnasium for four straight matches. Up first, UMW will take on #7 Bellevue on Wednesday (10/22).
