UMW Volleyball Drops 3-2 Heartbreaker to Montana Tech Wednesday

DILLON, Mont. – The Montana Western volleyball team (8-11, 6- 6 FC) fell to (RV) Montana Tech (11-7, 7-5 FC) in a hard-fought, five-set match Wednesday evening.
 
"I thought the team fought hard tonight and we just weren't able to overcome a few setbacks," Head Coach Katie Lovett said. "We are looking forward to this weekend and getting back on track."
 
NOTABLES
The Bulldogs landed eight service aces, their third highest tally of the season.

Kennedy Lingenfelter hit over .400 for the third time this season at .407 (13-27).

Olivia Rosborough earned season highs in both hitting percentage (.429) and kills (11).
 
Megan Hardman posted her third straight double-double (20 assists, 12 digs).
 
MATCH SUMMARY
The rivalry match lived up to the hype, with less than five points separating the two sides in all but one set. In the opening frame, both teams took turns with the lead, never leading by more than four points. The Bulldogs pulled away late and took the 1-0 lead 25-21. In the second, the visitors were the ones to steal the win, evening the score 1-1 with a 25-21 set win. In set three UMW's offense stalled, allowing the Orediggers to go up 2-1 after taking the game 25-11. Western wouldn't go quietly, however regaining their footing and leveling the score for the second time with the third 25-21 set score of the match in the penultimate set. In the fifth, the Bulldogs took a 12-10 lead, but Montana Tech scored five unanswered to complete the 3-2 win 15-12.

LEADERBOARD
  • Lingenfelter led the team with 13 kills, followed by Rosborough with 11.
  • Taylor Petersen and Megan Hardman shared the team-high in assists with 20 apiece.
  • Morgyn Harrison registered a team-best 17 digs.
  • Lingenfelter topped the team in blocks with 4.0.
  • Hardman, Harrison, and Jayda Ward each tallied twbo service aces.
 
SPLIT BOX
Montana Western held the statistical advantage in services aces (8-7), but were outperformed in kills (52-61), assists (45-57), digs (71-73), and blocks (6-8).

LOOKING AHEAD
The Bulldogs are back for two more home matches this weekend when they welcome Mayville State at 6 p.m. MT Friday, followed by Valley City State at 10 a.m. MT Saturday.
