Steward and Young Receive Frontier Player of the Week Honors

HELENA, Mont. – Montana Western men's basketball players Emanuel Steward and David Young both picked up Erck Hotels/ Frontier Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week awards after leading the #23 Bulldogs to an 82-80 overtime victory over #4 Montana Tech.
 
It is both players first player of the week nod of the season.
 
"Stew played an incredible game Friday night. Having 10 assists while also leading us in scoring shows the work he's been putting in. David's impact on the defensive end was huge and really showcased how talented he is," head coach Patrick Jensen said. "Their recognition is well deserved, and it's also a credit to how connected our team was against a very good opponent on the road. Having multiple guys earn Player of the Week honors already this season speaks to our depth and how well our group plays together."
 
Steward was named Offensive Player of the Week after posting a double-double with game-highs in both points (22) and assists (10) against the Orediggers
 
The Portland, Ore., native shot 47.1 percent (8-17) from the floor and 60.0 percent (3-5) from beyond the arc while also knocking down all three free throw attempts in the contest.
 
Young earned the Bulldogs' first Defensive Player of the Week recognition of the season, registering a season-high and game-best four steals against Montana Tech.
 
The junior out of El Dorado Hills, Calif., also grabbed a team-best seven rebounds (six on the defensive glass) to help UMW stay undefeated in league play. He paces the defense with 1.3 steals per game this season.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
Western returns to Straugh Gymnasium this week when it welcomes Carroll College (12/5) and (RV) Rocky Mountain (12/6). Both games are set for a 7 p.m. tip.
