UMW Men’s Rodeo Finishes Second, Women Place Fourth at MSU Spring Rodeo #2

BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Montana Western men's rodeo team placed second and the women took fourth at the Montana State Spring Rodeo #2 Sunday at Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.

The Bulldogs earned three event wins and three overall victories over the two days.

Coy Montgomey (bareback) and Cardell Laughery (saddle bronc) won both the short go and the average in their individual events.

Cooper Pavkov won the championship round in the steer wrestling while Jake Deveraux won the overall in the tie-down roping.

LONG GO RESULTS
Bareback Riding
Jeremy Kay earned a 71 in the long-go bareback riding for a first-place finish. Coy Montgomery was a close second with a score of 69

Tie-Down Roping
Jake Deveraux clocked a 9.1-second first run in the tie-down roping, securing the lead going into round two. Jade Ramon (12.7) and Bry Severe (13.1) finished fifth and seventh, respectively.

Breakaway Roping.
Charlee Resch and Kadie Bends tied for sixth in the long-go breakaway roping, both posting 2.5-second runs.

Saddle Bronc
Cardell Laughery was the only saddle bronc rider to lay down a clean ride in the long go, posting a 72 in round one.

Barrel Racing
Teely Bott finished sixth in the barrels with a time of 13.58.

Team Roping
Racin Allen and Montana's Rance Allen placed third in the team roping with an 8.1-second effort.

SHORT GO RESULTS
Bareback Riding
Montgomery posted a 76 in the short go to seal the win Sunday afternoon.

Tie-Down Roping
Deveraux went 11.8 second in the tie-down roping to place third while Ramon clocked a 14.3 to finish sixth.

Saddle Bronc
Laughery won the championship round in the saddle bronc with a 75. Cade Costello placed third in the short go with a 68.

Steer Wrestling
Cooper Pavkov won the short round steer wrestling with a 4.9-second run.

Barrel Racing
Laura Haight (13.79) and Teely Bott (13.83) placed fourth and fifth, respectively in the barrels.

AVERAGE
Bareback Riding
Montgomery took home his second bareback buckle of the weekend with a combined score of 145 for 60 points. Kay finished third overall with a 135, earning 40 points.

Tie-Down Roping
Deveraux won 60 points in the tie-down with a two-run time of 20.9. Ramon finished fifth on aggregate with a 27.0, taking home 20 points.

Saddle Bronc
Laughery's two big rides in the saddle bronc propelled him to the win and 60 points with a combined score of 147.

Steer Wrestling
Pavkov placed sixth in the average for the steer wrestling with a time of 25.2 for 10 points.

Barrel Racing
Bott finished fourth (24.41) and Haight placed sixth (27.63) in the overall for barrels, combining for 40 points.mo

LOOKING AHEAD
The Bulldogs travel to Havre, Mont., next weekend (April 17-18) when they compete at MSU-Northern.
