UMW Volleyball Falls to Ranked Opponents on Day One of I-84 Classic

NAMPA, Idaho – The Montana Western volleyball team (1-5) fell to #2 Eastern Oregon (11-0) 3-0 and #18 College of Idaho (6-0) 3-2 on the opening day of the I-84 Classic.

NOTABLES
Antonia Duncan earned a career high in kills (12) against College of Idaho.

Kennedy Lingenfelter hit a career-best .529 (9-17) with no errors against the Yotes.

Jaiden Perez tallied 9.0 blocks across both games.

MATCH SUMMARY
UMW vs EOU
The two-ranked Mountaineers got off to a strong start in set one, building a nine-point lead early in the match. The Bulldogs found their footing but couldn't quite close the gap and EOU went up 1-0 with a 25-14 set score. The Mountaineers doubled their lead with a 25-8 set two victory. UMW came alive in set three, scoring the first four points and maintaining its lead through most of the final frame. EOU managed to even things up at 21 points and went on to win the match in extra points, 26-24.

UMW vs CI
The tournament hosts jumped out to an early lead in the first and went up 1-0 after a 25-15 set victory. The Yotes doubled their lead after a tightly contested 25-23 win in set two. The Bulldogs showed moxie, however, and snagged the third frame 25-23. The momentum was on their side in the fourth and they evened the score at two sets apiece with a 25-22 victory. College of Idaho managed to steal the 3-2 win with a 15-10 score in the final set.

The Red and Black bested the Mountaineers in blocks (5-4) but were outdone in points (30.0-54.0), kills (22-42), aces (3-8), assists (18-40), and digs (37-46)

UMW vs CI
Western held the statistical advantage in blocks (10-3), but were beaten in points (68.0-78.0), kills (54-64), aces (4-11), assists (48-59), and digs (56-72).

ON THE HORIZON
The Bulldogs are back on the court tomorrow for day two of the I-84 Classic. They will take on #15 The Master's at 12 p.m. MT.
