Dillon, Mont. - The University of Montana Western Bulldogs (3-3, 0-1) opened up Frontier Conference play with a 83-62 loss to the 17th ranked Lewis-Clark State College Warriors.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead before Race Martin hit back-to-back 3-pointers to give LC the lead that they would hold the for the remainder of the game. Martin finished with a game-high 21 points on 7-9 shooting including going 5-5 from beyond the arc. He also added eight rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
The Bulldogs saw four players record double-figures in scoring, led by
Kooper Kidgell's 18 points,
Cedric Boone had 12,
Cole Baker added 11 points off the bench and
Jaycob Payne scored 10.
The Bulldogs hung with the Warriors, cutting their lead to just three halfway through the first-half. But the Warriors were able to respond, quickly building the lead up to 15 points, and holding a 42-31 edge at the break. Despite shooting 47 percent from the floor the Bulldogs were unable to keep pace with the Warriors, as they opened up a 20 point lead early in the second-half and didn't allow the Bulldogs a chance to come back, maintaining the margin for the duration of the half.
The Bulldogs will have to shake off the loss quickly as they face Montana Tech in Butte, Mont. on Dec. 4 at 7 :30 p.m.
