HELENA, Mont. – The Montana Western Track and Field team had a successful day at the Trudnowski Open this afternoon. Nine personal records highlighted the day with a pair of Bulldogs taking first place finishes in various events.
"Overall, the meet went pretty well, we had people PR in different events such as the 800, 1500, 200, and strong PRs from our throwers," Head Coach Taylor Grove said. "Heading into conference, we look strong as a team and we are excited to compete against the conference."
Isaiah Thomas came back out after a few off and hit a personal best mark in the men's 100m dash to win the event with a time of 10.76. In addition,
Brody Henry took the men's 800m run by storm and won the race by eight seconds with a time of 2:01.02. Each recorded a personal best today.
"Overall, we were impressed with each other today with a lot of PRs and a couple of wins. We have time to recover heading into conference. For myself, I am hoping to be 100 percent from a hamstring injury." Thomas commented.
"I don't really know what else to think honestly, I went out and went fast," Henry stated. "It felt like a good time trial heading into conference and a huge confidence booster. It is great to get a win!"
Results
On the men's side,
Brant Heiner and
Kaden Hennessey also competed in the men's 800m race, recording times of 2:09.83 and 2:14.59. Heiner's finish was also a personal best in the race and was good for second place.
Heiner went on to also record a personal record in the men's 1500m race, finishing in eighth with a time of 4:22.13. Henry and Hennessey also raced in the same event, finishing in 9
th and 12
th respectively.
Bulldog throwers
Carson Bain,
Layne Cooney, and
Tad Tackes all had a great meet. Cooney finished in third overall in the men's discus with a mark of 42.23m. Bain followed in seventh with a mark of 36.66m. Tackes followed in eighth with a personal record of 10.59m.
In the men's shot put, Bain led the way for the Bulldogs after he hit a personal record mark of 12.08m to place fifth overall. Cooney followed in sixth with an 11.87m and Tackes followed in seventh with a mark of 10.59m.
On the women's side,
Malia Cox took third overall in the women's 200m race. Her time of 27.72 was a new personal best. She also competed in the women's 100m and the women's long jump. She placed fifth in the 100m with a time of 13.63 and sixth in the women's long jump with a mark of 4.45m.
Olivia Heiner and
Maddie Yakos both hit personal records in the women's 800m race. Heiner finished in fourth overall with a time of 2:26.79. Yakos followed in ninth with her own time of 2:40.64. Heiner also competed in the women's 1500m race where she finished in sixth after a finishing time of 5:24.09.
Justene Santi competed in a pair of events today as well. She raced the women's 400m and the women's 1500m. She recorded her own personal record in the 400m after finishing in fourth with a time of 1:09.58. She also finished in 12th in the 1500m with a time of 5:50.94.

The Bulldogs get back in action next weekend with the Frontier Conference Championships in Butte, Mont. Events will begin at 10am on Sunday, May 5 with events running through Monday at 2:55pm.
