This Week in Bulldog Athletics - Feb. 3-9

MEN'S BASKETBALL

The Montana Western men’s basketball team (12-10) secured a victory against Providence on Thursday but narrowly lost to No. 9 Montana Tech in a thrilling road game on Saturday. In the exciting matchup, Jalyn Stepney scored 18 of his 21 points as the teams remained neck and neck, with no lead exceeding five points. On the final possession, the Orediggers hit a jumper with 0.6 seconds left to clinch the 68-66 win. This week, the Bulldogs will host (RV) Rocky Mountain College on Thursday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. in the Straugh Gymnasium. They will then face Carroll College at home on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 4 p.m. in the Straugh Gymnasium.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

The Montana Western Bulldogs Women’s Basketball team (7-14) is entering this week on a five-game losing streak. Dropping to No. 25 Providence 78-66 on Thursday night. They then traveled to Butte Mont. to take on (RV) Montana Tech on Saturday and ended up with an 83-67 loss. This week they will host (RV) Rocky Mountain College on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 5 p.m. in the Straugh Gymnasium. On Saturday Feb. 8 No. 20 Carroll College will make their way down to Dillon to take the Bulldogs on at home in the Straugh Gymnasium as well.

TRACK & FIELD

The Montana Western track and field team showcased their talents at Montana State University’s Bobcat Performance Meet this past Friday. Wade Dahood achieved a personal best of 9.32 in the 60m hurdles and secured ninth place in the long jump with a mark of 5.70m. In the 800m, Brody Henry finished 10th with a time of 2:07.17, while Bridger Wheeler set a personal best of 2:21.46. Olivia Canney also recorded a personal best in the women’s 800m, clocking in at 2:56.02. In the men’s mile, Harrison Silverio led the Bulldogs, placing ninth with a time of 4:49.58, followed by Henry at 5:00.16 and Wheeler, who achieved another personal best of 5:11.34. Justene Santi led the women’s mile with a time of 6:23.27, and Ruby Smith excelled in the women’s 3000m, finishing with a time of 12:04.72. Layne Cooney improved his shot-put mark, achieving a personal best of 13.53m. The Bulldogs will return to action on Friday, February 7, at the Stacy Dragila Invitational in the ICCU Dome on the campus of Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho.
