Santi’s Program Record Highlights Jeff Rahn Classic, Bulldogs Take Fifth at Montana Tech Spring Series #2

SPOKANE, Wash. / BUTTE, Mont.– Bulldog track and field athlete Justene Santi set a modern-era program record in the women's 3000m steeplechases Friday at the Jeff Rahn Classic in Spokane, Wash., as the rest of the Western team competed at the second installment of the Montana Tech Spring Series.
 
Santi posted a 12:26.37 personal best in the steeplechase for a fourth-place showing.  
 
Brody Henry, also competing in Spokane, clocked a 1:57.82 season-best in the men's 800m, finishing 12th.
 
In Friday's throwing events, Braden Kopp placed sixth in the women's hammer throw with a 30.38m (99-08) toss.
 
Layne Cooney registered a 42.07m (138-00) in the men's hammer throw for a seventh-place finish.
 
Cooney also earned a season best in the men's discus, placing fourth with a 45.37m (148-10) effort. Justin Maier finished ninth after a 38.34m (125-09) season best and Tad Tackes placed 11th (31.93m, 104.09).
 
Saturday's events kicked off with the women's discus and saw Kopp take 10th, (31.92m, 104-08) while Kendalyn Streck placed 14th (28.23m, 92-07), Ellie Stutsman finished 15th (28.21m, 92-06), Brielle Davis earned 16th (27.95m, 91-08), and Sarah Clark placed 18th (26.23m, 86-00).
 
After a rain delay, throws continued with the men's shot put. Cooney tossed a 12.69m (41-07.75) to finish 11th.
 
Streck placed seventh in the women's shot put with a 10.61m (34-09.75), followed by Stutsman (9.37m, 30-09.00) in 13th and Kopp (9.21m, 30-02.75) in 14th.
 
On the track Saturday, Olivia Heiner placed sixth in the women's 10,000m with a 43:28.55.
 
Mason Lynch ran to a 19th-place finish in the men's 3000m, posting an 11:01.97.
 
The men's 4x400m relay (Tristan Von Bargen, Henry, Bridger Wheeler, and Michael Reistroffer) clocked a 3:45.66 to take fifth.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
Western takes to the track again next weekend when they head to Helena, Mont., for the Trudnowski Open (4/18).
