Missoula, Mont. – The University of Montana Western track team had another successful weekend at the Montana Open.
The Bulldogs had several runners hit personal bests in Missoula as they get closer to reaching qualifying standards in multiple events.
In the women's 5000m
Gabi Gomez and
Mindy Kaufman both ran a converted 18:18, which is a personal best for Gomez.
Emma Adams also finished with a personal best, running a converted 19:53.
Eireann O'Connor had another strong meet running a 2:29.08 in the 800 meters and finishing second in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:54.99. She is just a few seconds back of qualifying to nationals in both events.
"We had another good week," head coach
Dylan Zitzer said. "The women ran well again. Gabi smashed her lifetime best and Eireann is inching closer to the qualifying standard."
In the men's 800 meters
Josh Jessop finished in 2:03.91 edging out teammate
Russell Kujala by less than a second (2:04.76). Kujala (4:14.53) was able to beat out Jessop (4:25.72) in the 1500 meters.
In the 5000 meters,
Tanner Lehr ran a personal best 16:12.35 (15:59 converted).
Matt Wilson finished in 16:32.71.
"We are continuing to improve," added Zitzer. "We are excited to see what the rest of the season holds."
The Bulldogs will be back in action April 20 at the MSU Open in Bozeman, Mont.
