Bulldog Athletic Hall of Fame
The 1991-1992 men’s rodeo team was
the first Montana Western rodeo team
to be crowned regional champions since
the early 1960s and went on to place
fifth in the College National Finals Rodeo.
Jesse Peterson placed second in the region
and first in the nation in steer wrestling.
Pete Petersen placed second in the nation
in steer wrestling and won the region
in steer wrestling. Jess Martin placed third
in the nation and won the region in saddle
bronc.
Dan Mulkey was in the top five in the
all-around and won the region in calf
roping. Lari Sluggett won the region
in bull riding. Shannon Wortman won
the region in all-around.
Coached by Wayne Else, the team consisted
of Jess Martin, Dan Mulkey, Shannon
Worthman, Pete Petersen, Jesse Peterson
and Lari Sluggett.
Lari was injured and later died from his
injuries sustained while bull riding in
Edmonton, Alberta on March 17, 1996.
He died doing what he loved.
He and his wife Kate were expecting their
first child at the time of his death. A son,
Logan, was born later that year. He is
currently a freshman at Montana Western
and is a redshirt on the Bulldog football
team.
