Bulldog Athletic Hall of Fame
Donnie Keltz is being inducted into
UMW’s Hall of Fame thanks to his
“meritorious service” to Montana Western.
Over the years, Keltz has helped out many
of Montana Western’s athletic programs.
Whether it’s offering a team meal at the Lion’s Den or assisting with practice, Keltz
has always been ready to help out in any
way he could.
“Montana Western is like a big family,” said
Keltz. “There have been so many special
coaches and players throughout the years
that I just wanted to help.”
Keltz also has a deeper connection to Montana
Western. His father Donald F. “Casey”
Keltz coached men’s basketball for many
years and Keltz was able to be a part of that.
He played for his father and the Bulldogs
until an injury ended his career.
After that, he assisted with practice and
gave his dad some tips at halftime.
“One of my favorite memories is when
the 1989 men’s basketball team beat
Grand Canyon University,” said Keltz.
“I traveled to the national tournament
with them and would go in at half time
and talk to my dad. I don’t know that he
ever listened to any of my ideas, but it
was just a great experience being there.”
He has helped operate the Lion’s Den
Supper Club in Dillon since 1980.
