Katie Ryan Howells earned her bachelor’s
degree in Business with an emphasis in
Health and Fitness Management from
UMW in 2006. As a volleyball athlete at
Montana Western, Howells was a member
of the 1998 Bulldog team that qualified for
the Regional Tournament for the first time
in the school’s history.
Katie was selected 2nd team All-Conference
in 1999. In 2000 she earned academic
All-Conference, 1st Team All-Conference,
1st team All-Region and 3rd team All-
American. She also set the school record for
kills in a season that year. In her senior year
she received academic All-Conference, 1st
team All-Conference, 1st team All-region
and All-American Honorable Mention honors.
She was also a co-captain her senior
season. Katie’s most memorable moments
at Montana Western were team dinners,
three a day practices, long road trips in the
vans, the team trip to Hawaii and the trip
to the regional tournament. Coach Jenny
Peterson stated, “Katie was a great leader.
She did the right things on the court; she
rarely made a mistake, but was still aggressive.
She was a very smart player and was
very competitive.”
Howells now works for Computers
Unlimited. She has been married to her
husband Craig for twelve years. They are
the parents of two children, Ryan, 11 and
Ben, 9.
