Cecil Warren, a native of Liberty, Mo., was a 1962 graduate of Western Montana College (WMC) with a Bachelor of Science in secondary education.

He made an instant impact in the Bulldog basketball program, earning honorable mention all-conference honors his freshman year followed by second team honors after his sophomore and junior seasons and first team honors his senior year. Warren was also a four-year letterman in baseball.

The 1958-59 Bulldogs won their second straight Montana Collegiate Conference (MCC) title and District 5 title. Western lost only to Eastern Montana in conference play. At the district tourney hosted by WMC, the Bulldogs beat Northern in the semifinals and College of Idaho in the championship to advance to Kansas City and the NAIA national tournament for the second straight season. Western lost to Pacific Lutheran in the first round.

The 1960-61 Bulldogs won the Montana Collegiate Conference (MCC) title with a 9-1 league mark and the district title with a sweep over College of Idaho to earn another trip to the NAIA national tournament in Kansas City, Mo. Warren led the team in scoring with 14.9 points per game. Georgetown (Ky) knocked the Bulldogs out in the opening round of the national tournament.

Warren was active on campus as president of  M-Club, on the Student Affairs Committee, in the Student Education Association and as sports editor of the Chinook yearbook. He was selected to Who’s Who his senior year.

Warren began his Montana teaching/coaching career in Malta, and then Shelby. From 1969 until 1980, Cecil was the athletic director for Libby High School. Later, he became the activities director for the Helena School District. Cecil, who was well recognized throughout the community, loved his job and retired in 1993.
